Friday Chit-Chat Vol. 4

Me taking pictures for a new thing I’m trying out. Can you guess what it is? Probably not but I’ll share soon. Also, bralette from Costco, and PJ’s from TJ Maxx circa 2011. Definitely #notafashionblogger

Welcome to Friday Chit-Chat where I answer some fun questions and then leave a copy/paste list for you to answer them in the comments! I love learning more about you all, and hopefully you enjoy these posts as well.

What was your first makeup item?

My very first makeup item, if I remember correctly, was a purple lip gloss that was REALLY vibrantly purple from Bath & Body Works. It was absolutely heinous looking but it smelled and tasted sweet and I had to have it as a middle schooler. I also remember buying their concealer, which at 33 is laughable to me. What did I need concealer for as a middle schooler? Probably pimples? I upgraded when I checked out the Clinique counter for the first time, I think in 6th grade.

What type of beauty services do you invest in and how often?

I’m a pretty low maintenance girl, so for me, it’s ombré and a hair trim every few months and that’s about it. I see someone who comes to my house so that makes it really easy for me. Recently, I got lash extensions for the first time and although they’re pricey, I think they’re well worth it. I don’t think I can keep up with it every few weeks but every few months I think they’d be a great pick me up. I love waking up and having perfect lashes. It sounds silly but just try it and you’ll see what I mean!

What is your favorite mascara and why?

I was loving the Milk Kush mascara for quite a while, but lately I’m into the Clinique High Impact. It’s cheap, jives with my sensitive eyes, and washes off easily. Overall though? Lash extensions are the best my lashes have ever looked.

What is your favorite high end brand?

This is tough! Long term favorite brands of mine have been Clinique and It Cosmetics since they’re great for sensitive skin, hypoallergenic, etc. Clean beauty favorite brands are Bite Beauty, Kosas, Beautycounter, etc. I’m always looking to discover a new favorite brand.

What’s one cult classic that you’ve never tried?

I’ve always wanted to try Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder, but never got around to it. The other day I actually did put a small dab of it under my eyes when I was at Sephora testing out some makeup. It looked so terrible on me. I’ve never tried it all day long or with the proper application techniques so maybe I’m really missing out.

What brand has the best packaging?

I have always been really attracted to Benefit’s packaging. I have memories of college when we would drive to the Mall of America (in Minneapolis) and check out the Sephora there. That was over 10 years ago and I still remember how thrilling it was to be able to see all the makeup in one place. We didn’t have Sephora where I grew up and it was so much fun getting to look at everything. I would spend hours in that store and just about every time I would go, I would leave with something by Benefit. I thought their packaging was adorable and it drew me in. I used to buy Erase Paste, which is now known as Boi-ing and their cream eyeshadow was also AMAZING. I just looked on their website and it looks like they’ve totally discontinued those which is a shame because they were the best.

What celebrity has the best makeup?

I was pondering this the other day when I was looking through makeup at Sephora and stumbled upon the Fenty Beauty line. I like the looks of a lot of her stuff, but what’s so great about the formulas? I really prefer to support brands that put a lot of effort into researching skin friendly formulas. I like brands that manufacture in the US and not in cheap factories overseas. I like “skincare makeup” and you just won’t get that with most celebrity lines. That said, I did buy one of the Fenty liquid lipsticks and it’s pretty good. She’s not a celebrity, but on YouTube I love to follow Brianna Stanko and she has been working on a skincare line. I’m really eager to see what she comes up with because she likes medical grade and green beauty.
