What’s your favorite matte eyeshadow?
I have so many! The first matte eyeshadow palettes I ever tried were the Urban Decay Naked Basics palettes. I still really like those but it’s been probably a couple years since I’ve pulled one of them out. I remember liking Naked 2 Basics (review) a LOT so now that I think about that, I’m going to have to find whatever happened to those! Once Tarte started coming out with matte palettes, I put the Urban Decay aside for a while. Tartelette (review) was a huge hit for me, I love Tarte’s matte formulas. I love Tartelette in Bloom (review) too, which was a mixture of matte and shimmer shades. Recently, I’ve tried another matte eyeshadow formula though and it’s yet another winner. Jane Iredale Naturally Matte Eyeshadow Kit* is really earning a place in my heart these days.
I just recently tried Jane Iredale for the first time. I’ll be honest that I’ve never really been attracted to the brand based upon packaging alone. But I’ve read reviews over the years that have all been really positive about their products, and now the more I am loving their stuff the more I feel like I see it around! A lot of salons and spas carry it. When we were in Vegas last week our hotel spa carried Jane Iredale makeup. After trying a few of their products, it’s not hard to understand why people feel so highly of the product line.
The Naturally Matte palette features five shades that are perfect for neutral eyeshadow looks. I have been wearing these with my Urban Decay Primer Potion as a base and they wear really well together. I have no problem with creasing and these shadows last the entire day on me. There is no fall out, they are highly pigmented, and they are silky smooth to apply. I also love all five of the shades. As with most of my eyeshadow palettes, I don’t use the included sponges, I like to use my own makeup brushes.
Buttercream: matte creamy neutral
Hush: sheer soft pink
Slate Brown: matte grey brown
Eggplant: matte rose brown
Fudge: matte deep chocolate
If I had to choose a favorite shade from the palette, Eggplant is probably it. It’s a matte rose brown shade that is total perfection! It would be great by itself as an all over lid color, or you could wear it like I like to wear it by applying it to the crease before applying Fudge to deepen the whole effect.
I have really been enjoying this palette recently! Also don’t mind my bronzing gel snafu in the pictures above. I noticed it after I took the pictures and didn’t take the time to go back and crop them out. I actually love the product I used but I’ll make sure to include in my review how NOT to blend it out 🙂
What’s your favorite matte eyeshadow formula? Do you have one? Have you tried Jane Iredale?
