Highlighter is arguably my favorite item to play with. If you asked me my favorite last week, I would have said something by Becca. Maybe Champagne Pop (read review)? I’ve been obsessed with that one lately. If you asked me three weeks ago, I would’ve said the Anastasia Glow Kit (read review). For the record, I still LOVE, regularly use, and would highly recommend both of those highlighters. But this week I picked up a new one, the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Celestial, and be still my heart, I have a new favorite highlighter. And it is magical.
I’m not even sure how these got on my radar. I think I was online shopping at Sephora when I discovered that Cover FX has come out with a ton of new products. I bought one of their concealers last year and also have the Custom Cover Drops. I love both and had been curious to try out new products from their line.
I’m seriously SO intrigued by these. They come in six shades of to highlight, strobe, or bronze. You can use them alone or mixed in with foundation or moisturizer. These are highly concentrated formulas and the amount you get is a little deceiving. In fact, I wish they sold a half size for half price because it’ll take me ages to get through the entire bottle. They are extremely highly concentrated with pearls, and have almost a chrome luminosity to them. I swatched everything at Sephora to try and find something similar and it doesn’t exist. These are truly one of a kind and the more you use, the more intense it gets. Even sheered out it’s still kind of bling. It’s not too much if you are using a VERY small amount, but it could become overkill territory fast if you aren’t careful.
I’ve had a lot of fun playing with these. I have mixed them with Urban Decay Naked foundation and It Cosmetics YSBB CC+ and both times have produced amazing results. My favorite way to use this is to mix a couple drops into foundation, apply to the face and blend with a Beauty Blender. I then go back in with a pea sized amount or less and apply a little bit more of the highlighter just to the high points of my face.
What I love the most about these is how flattering they are. I am very aware of my pores most of the time I wear a highlighter, but when I wear this I don’t feel like my pores are being emphasized at all. The sheen this gives off is so beautiful and the best way to describe it is I feel like I’m glowing when I wear it. It’s not a glitter bomb at all, the pearls are microfine and the flecks are so small it’s not going to show up as glitter hunks on your face. The texture is similar to a hydrating oil. It dries down super fast when applied to bare skin and doesn’t budge besides being blended out. I don’t feel like it changes the consistency of my foundation at all, and it also leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft. It’s kind of like magic. If you’re looking for a lower priced dupe, stop looking (at least for now) because there’s nothing else like this on the market right now.
I’m really excited that Cover FX has brought something unique like this to the table though, because the wheels are going to be turning for other brands and hopefully we see similar products come out soon. I want to see what everyone produces as a comeback to this. Hopefully we see lower priced dupes by other brands come out.
I don’t have the most consistent lighting set up in my house but you can kind of get the picture of what this looks like by itself and sheered out. If I had video capabilities you could’ve seen it when it turns in the light. It’s just so pretty! The top picture is in artificial light and the bottom picture is actually what it looked like in the dim light of my kitchen when I was going to wash it off. I thought, holy crap this is gorgeous even in dim lighting and had to snap another picture!

I had a request on Instagram to include some swatches of Celestial compared to a few other highlighters I have. A lot of these are not similar in shade at all but I swatched them because they are popular right now and you can compare the luminosity and intensity to something you already own.
When I tried this at Sephora I was stuck between Celestial and Moonlight and decided I wanted both until I saw the price! I opted to try one first and see how that went. Now I naturally want them all! I watched a video by Brianna Stanko and I’m convinced I need some of the bronzing drops too.
Have you seen this in store yet? Do you own it? What do you think?
