My oldest is off to school in a couple weeks (cue the tears) and I’m scurrying trying to get everything prepared to make our lives easier. Making freezer meals, scheduling activities, penciling in when I’m going to exercise…so many things to remember! One thing I love to do for myself is put together a little bag I can tote around for when I am done at the gym in the morning. I have a plan to work out right after dropping her off at school and I love the idea of adding in a quick little 10 minute routine of putting my face on for the day while I’m still at the gym. My whole day goes differently if I take the time to work out and also when I take the time to wear makeup. I feel energized, pretty, and more “me” when I take the time to do these things.
I’ve been testing out a handful of products plus I have some old favorites and they all fit into my makeup bag, are Justina approved, and make for a quick 5-10 minute routine when I need it.
Laura Mercier really nails it with their primer. I’ve used many of her primers in the past but the Radiance Foundation Primer has been speaking to me lately. I don’t always use a primer, but when I do, I love when it gives my skin a luminous base to apply foundation to, and even better when it works as a glue to stick my foundation to so it lasts for a long time. This one ticks all the boxes and I’m a huge fan.
bareMinerals Bareskin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer is a product you’ve heard me talk about a lot of times. It’s my all time favorite concealer for minimal makeup days. It doesn’t cake, crease, show up too thick, or anything. It’s the best! I have my summer shade and my winter shade and I don’t go anywhere without it.
I love a good powder foundation and I dropped and broke my favorite one recently so it was time to try something new. Osmosis is a great skincare makeup line and I am really into their Pressed Base foundation. It’s a semi-matte finish with long-lasting coverage with natural broad-spectrum UV protection. I love the coverage on this and my skin feels silky smooth and soft when I wear it. I apply it with a fluffy brush and I buff it in. I think using that Laura Mercier primer makes such a big difference in the application of this too! This is a new found favorite powder foundation I’m excited about and I love that it has a refillable compact!
Another favorite Osmosis product is their blushes. A good nude blush is a fail safe for me. It will work with any makeup look, whether I decide to go minimal, smoky, or bright. Summer Rose is soft and natural. Think Tarte’s Naughty Nude collection. If you like those, you will love Summer Rose!
A lot of people don’t wear highlighter every day but in my opinion, it can really put the finish touches on my face and it’s a step I don’t like to skip. If you are not into something beaming and bright, you will LOVE Sephora Golden Hour Luminizing Powder. It’s soft and subtle and looks very pretty as a blush topper. It’s luminous like the Hourglass Ambient Light powders are but with a hint of more color payoff. I have Dusk, which is a sultry pink tone. It’s long lasting and so pretty.
For my eyes, I like to keep it pretty simple. Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks make eyeshadow super simple and they come in matte and shimmer shades. I personally love a smudgy/smoky eye with these. I’m also obsessed with Osmosis Eyeshadow Duos which are all matte and are the best formulas I’ve ever found for a matte eyeshadow. Chocolate Brulée is my absolute favorite. I never ever ever skip putting my eyebrows on, which is usually done with Anastasia Dip Brow, and I always finish with an eyebrow lift from my Surratt Curler and a coat or two of It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara which is my all time favorite.
Finishing touches for me are a facial mist and a bit of perfume. If you use facial mists enough you can practically go through them like water! I have a lot of favorites from what I’ve tried over the years and I’m planning a blog post soon to show you which ones I turn to most. Right now, I’m enjoying the Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist.
Whether school has started in your neck of the woods or not, you would probably benefit from a bag for “on the go” like I do. It’s such a relief to have your stuff ready to go at any given time. All of the products I mentioned are tried and true and I’m glad to have some fail safe items packed with me now that my mornings are much busier.
