Valentine’s Day Roundup 2014

press sample, bought it myself, affiliate links

Let me preface this post with the disclaimer that I hate Valentine’s Day. It’s a day designed to be a total letdown. Some guys buy their girlfriends/wives really nice gifts and send them flowers at work and it reminds everyone else that their man is either a) not as thoughtful or b) is a painful reminder that you’re single again this year. The standard gift to give for Valentine’s Day is chocolates or flowers. Both are expensive, but flowers will wilt and die within a week and a box of chocolates makes it hard to abide by your New Year’s Resolution (or have we forgotten about those already)? If you want to spend time with just the girls, good luck, because every restaurant in town is booked with all the couples wanting to dine by candlelight on a romantic evening. I’ve hated this day since high school and I continue to hate it well into my 20s, even though I’m married.
I prefer to spend Valentine’s Day spoiling myself and others. It’s a great time to reach out to your single girlfriends and send them a little treat. It’s a good time to head over to Sephora or Amazon and buy yourself something exciting for no other reason than to reward yourself for being you. I’ve rounded up some of my absolute favorite items from this month that I think would be a perfect gift for yourself or a girl friend. So give yourself a high five for being awesome and pick out your favorite thing to buy!

Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette is a delicious little treat because it smells like chocolate and all the colors are amazing. I bought this as soon as it came out in late December and I’ve been using it almost daily since I got it. The colors are awesome and the smell is even more awesome. I will probably review it sometime soon, unless I eat it first!
A Birchbox subscription is a great gift idea because you can give 3, 6, or 12 months. Depending on how much you want to spend, you can give someone a good gift or a GREAT gift. Every month, beauty products will be delivered to her house for her to look forward to, and she can get Birchbox points by reviewing her box online, and redeem those points for free products. Can’t beat it!
If you really want to spoil the heck out of someone, buy them a makeup organizer. I just did a post on how I cram a ton of makeup and beauty products into a small space. I listed many great items that can be purchased from Amazon, Ikea, Craigslist, and various other places online.
If you are going to get something for your significant other, I’ve got just the thing. I just bought a book the other day at Barnes & Noble called The You and Me Book: A Love Journal. There are two places to write- one side is for your guy/girl and the other side is for you. It details your memories, favorites, and everything you have done as a couple, as well as the future. We’ve filled out a couple pages and it’s fun to read what the other person has to say in comparison to what you remember. I like stuff like this way better than I like those cheesy/perverted coupon books.
I also love the Emily & Tony Aromatherapy Massage Oil Candle in Coco. The Coco fragrance opens with notes of coconut, cedar, and sweet vanilla. You could use this candle as you use any traditional candle, or you could use it to “set the tone” for your night. When hot, the candle wax doubles as a luxurious moisturizer  meant to be used for pleasure. You can get 50 hours of fun out of these candles, too! I love the way this smells so I’m thrilled it will be lasting a super long time.
My friends at the Clinique counter were telling me about these blushes, and they were having a great promotion, so I ended up buying all of them. I think these will be an absolutely staple for me. They are pigmented and vibrant, but still very natural. I love layering Peach Pop and Ginger Pop! Look for a review of these in the next couple weeks.
Earlier today I posted about LUSH’s Valentine’s Day 2014 line. Go check the post out. You will love all of these products!
The be Delectable line is a delicious line whose parent brand, Cake Beauty, is a fan-favorite at Sephora stores across Canada. be Delectable is available at Kohl’s Stores across the US. The brand will be featured this February 12th-February 23rd in the center aisle hot spot at all Kohl’s stores in the special “buy 1, get 1 for $1 offer.” They are also being highlighted during a Beauty Spotlight event with in-store demos in all Kohl’s stores on Saturday, March 1st if you are interested in trying the brand! As for the product? Perfect for Valentine’s Day. I’ve tried the Lemon and Cream Body Wash and the Strawberries and Cream Hand Cream. The body wash smells like a delicious lemon cake. The scent is not strong or overpowering, and it really makes my skin noticeably softer after use.
Lastly, tarte’s Spring line….OMG. If you want to really show a friend you love them big time you should definitely pick up a cheek stain or power pigment lipsurgence for them. These are so beautiful and springy, you are sure to lift the mood of a girl friend…that is if you’re able to part with them!
Many of these items are kind of a sneak peek into what I’ll be reviewing on my blog in the next few weeks. All of these products are amazing, and I can’t wait to share more details with you. I hope you have a fantastic Valentine’s Day and let me know which product you are most interested in picking up for yourself!
