Being someone who has a love for all beauty products, there are many things I think everyone should try! If I had to narrow it down to two beauty items that I think everyone needs to try at least once in their lives, I would say fake nails and red lips.
I wore the exact same lipstick shade (Clinique Teddy Bear- discontinued) the entire way through high school. It wasn’t until I was 22 or 23 and I went into a Sephora on NYE that I even considered red lipstick. I absolutely loved the shade the sales rep picked out for me, and I’ve been wearing it ever since. I don’t wear it every day or even all that often, but I do think it’s something that everyone should try, even if you try it and hate it and never wear it again!
The lip shade in the pictures here is Shiseido Veiled Rouge in RD506 Carnevale. If you’ve never worn a red lipstick before this would be a good place to start. Shiseido’s formula is long wearing, hydrating, and clings to my lips in almost a waxy way like a lip balm. Once I apply, it is really “stuck” to my lips. They call it transfer free, and although a slight amount of lippie might get on your coffee cup, for the most part I agree.
Investing in my nails at the salon is also something I don’t do often, we’re talking like three times in my life- senior pictures, prom, and my wedding. I usually keep my nails trimmed short so I can type, change diapers, do the dishes, etc, so spending $30-50 on fake nails that I am just going to remove right away isn’t practical. If I am going to be in a wedding, get family pictures taken, or I’m just feeling fancy, KISS Salon Acrylic French Nails are perfect for me.
I’ve attempted at home french nails in the past and have never been impressed. The price is low and quality is usually low too, but the KISS brand really knocked it out of the park for me. For $7.99 I can do both hands and have some left over. There are 28 pieces in a pack, and you’re bound to find a size to fit each fingernail. I have super wide nails and the biggest thumb nail fit my thumb perfectly. I have the RS (real short) length pictured below, but there are varying lengths offered.
A friend of mine swears by KISS fake nails and she says they last two weeks. There’s no way I could tolerate having fake nails on for that long, but I believe it. They are super thick, they didn’t bubble when I applied them, and quite honestly I felt like the glue was more like cement!
Red lips and fake nails. Love them or hate them, but try them at least once in your life! Neither makes it into my daily or even weekly rotation, but it’s so fun to try new beauty things in your routine, don’t you think?
