I tend to go in waves with what beauty products I am obsessing over. In the summer it tends to be CC cream that offers sheer, buildable coverage and cream eyeshadows that go on with one swipe and require little effort. In the fall and winter, anything goes! I wear SO much more makeup when I am not worrying about it sweating off.
Lately, my “thing” has been matte lipstick. There are so many reasons to love it! I love that a good matte lip color will make my lips look hydrated yet be a flat color on my lips. I love that they tend to last a lot longer on me than a glossy lip shade. I love that they’re in style right now so I don’t have to hunt high and low to find them everywhere because they’re already everywhere! I found some steals from Maybelline and I have some from Clinique, butter LONDON, and Tarte as well! I featured Bite in a different post but it goes without saying that I’m obsessed with their lippies, and their Matte Créme Lip Pencils are actually what started this obsession anyway!
The Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color is a great drugstore option I have found. I’ve got Nude Embrace, Daringly Nude, and Siren in Scarlet. I like the red the best because I’m really picky about my nudes. I get compliments every time I wear it! The formula has a lot of slip yet is still matte. I can trust it for about three hours if I’m not eating or drinking before I am checking a mirror for patchiness and fading. I like it a lot and I think it’s a perfect way to introduce yourself to a matte lip shade if you’re not sure.
Tarte’s LipSurgence Matte Lip Tints are one of the easiest ways to wear a matte lip color. I have Hope, Exposed, Envy, and Fiery. The crayon form is super easy to use, and the shades go on sheer-ish but are buildable. Each shade is also really easy to pull off! Exposed, the nude shade, is the exact same color as the inside of my lip. I read somewhere that your perfect lip shade will match perfectly the inside of your lip. Maybe that’s why I love the way it looks on me so much! The other shades are great too. The lip tints are peppermint-infused and have a beautiful matte finish. The texture is slightly waxy or balmy, like a chapstick, so they moisturize and the color still clings to your lips. These also last on me for hours without fading at all.
I have two shades of the Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipcolor. I was really drawn to these in stores and was able to finally narrow down to Matte Plum and Matte Beauty. I am fascinated by the staying power of these on my lips. The first I tried these, I wore Matte Beauty and I bought a hot tea from a drive through. I was expecting a smeary lipstick miss on the side of the cup, and what did I get? Nothing. No lipstick transfer at all. I absolutely couldn’t believe it! These apply beautifully with a lot of slip and I get a super long wear time out of them. They are slightly drying on me, but nothing a little lip balm before and after can’t fix.
butter LONDON’s LIPPY Moisture Matte Lipstick is the winner in terms of moisturization. This This formula has Vitamin E and triple butter complex. They do feel really buttery and smooth when I apply them. They are gorgeous on but they do fade after a couple hours so they’re not super long wearing. I have Abbey Rose, Toff, and Ruby Murray. I have to admit that Abbey Rose (above middle) is my favorite and I’ve had to really pry myself away from it to try new things lately because I love it so much. These are exclusively sold at Ulta.
I swatched these below so you could check them all out. And just for fun included my two favorites from Bite Beauty as well.
Do you have a favorite? Do you wear matte lips or prefer glossy?
