The biggest beauty conundrum I have had in the last five years is what I can use for foundation and concealers that won’t make me look older. Since having kids and turning 30, my skin is noticeably drier. Where I used to switch up my beauty routine all the time, I have found myself sticking to the same handful of products for a couple years now with very little rotation. One thing I don’t really mess around with anymore is new concealers. Once I find one that works well, I stick with it and repurchase over and over. Most of the best concealers for 30+ skin that I’ll be sharing with you have been in my makeup bag for a long time now. They’re tried and true!
The best concealers for 30+ skin
So, I’m looking for a few things: I need the concealer to look like real skin. I need it to perform well whether I’m having a minimal makeup day or a full coverage makeup day. I need it to have staying power on my dry skin without cracking or creasing. I need it to cover my under eye circles well. I’ll be totally honest. I have a few concealers because you can’t get different types of results from one concealer by itself. But depending on what type of makeup day I’m having, I instantly know which concealer I’ll be reaching for.
For full face of makeup days
Tarte Shape Tape is great for when I need opaque and brightening coverage under my eyes. I wear this on full coverage makeup days. It wouldn’t look right with a bare face because it covers everything and nothing peeks through. But on the days I want to look flawless and airbrushed, this is my jam. If I’ve moisturized properly and use a dewy setting spray, this won’t crack or cake on me.
For sheer to medium coverage makeup days
This is my every day makeup routine. Sheer to medium coverage in 5 minutes or less. On those days, I am reaching for one of my two favorite concealers- Osmosis Age Defying Treatment Concealer or bareMinerals Complete Coverage Serum Concealer. These work a little differently but the end result is the same. The Osmosis has a balm end that can be applied before the concealer for hydration and to give the product a little more stick. The bareMinerals has a doe foot applicator and applies like any normal concealer. Both look like real skin and I could wear them even if I had no other makeup on.
When I have blemishes to cover
My skin is dry and acne prone and I wouldn’t typically choose to put brightening concealer on something I was trying to camouflage. That’s why I need Tarte Creaseless Concealer in my life. This is the perfect concealer that’s full coverage, works well on dry skin, and hides any blemishes perfectly. I have used this under my eyes as well if my under eye area is feeling dry; I’ll just add it to the brightening concealer I’m using to make it a little more hydrating. This formula is a staple in my beauty bag.
A greener beauty concealer alternative
First Aid Beauty is one of my favorite brands for skincare and they recently released the Avocado Bendy Concealer. FAB has a no-no list, including artificial colorants and artificial fragrances, ethanol, ethyl alcohol, denatured alcohol, methanol, n-butyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, sd alcohol, lanolin, propylene glycol, mineral oil, petrolatum, formaldehydes, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, triclocarban, and talc. I love that their brand is ingredient conscious, which makes it the perfect fit for my sensitive skin!
Avocado Bendy Concealer has very natural looking coverage that bends with the skin’s movements throughout the day. This means it never cracks, creases, cakes, or settles into fine lines. There are lots of skin friendly ingredients like avocado oil, vitamin E, and mushroom extracts to help hydrate, condition, and soothe skin, and caffeine helps to diminish the appearance of under-eye puffiness and dark circles. I have been pairing this with the Hello FAB Kona Eye Stick to hydrate, de-puff and prime my eyes. I use it right before the concealer as a prep step to treat the skin there plus it helps the concealer stick a little better.
You can see in these before/after pictures how much it really looks like my real skin. The difference is very slight (before I’m just wearing foundation, after I used the Kona Eye Stick and the Avocado Bendy Concealer and did my brows).
These two products are newer to my makeup bag, but I can already see that they’re going to be around for awhile. I’m curious to try the Kona Eye Stick with my Tarte Shape Tape Concealer to see if it makes for more of a hydrated base and application.
These are some of my favorite concealers for 30+ skin. I think no matter what kind of coverage you are looking for, if you own these concealers, you’ll have it covered! (Literally LOL) Do you own any of these or have your eye on any? Tell me which ones in the comments below!
