Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

I’ve been toying around a lot with tarte’s Rainforest After Dark palette, and I have to say it has been love at first sight! If you haven’t seen this palette yet, you NEED to have it, and even more so that everything on tarte’s website is 30% off through today.

Just one of the super exciting launches for tarte’s fall collection is this palette. There are so many goodies I can’t wait to show you, as pictured below. But for now, let’s talk about the six shades of eyeshadow in this pretty palette, as well as a bronzer, highlighter, and blush! These shades are inspired by the deep orchid hues of the rainforest at dusk. All of the shades are meant to work day and night, and they are infused with colored clay, which naturally color corrects, controls oil, brightens, evens, and soothes skin and doesn’t settle into fine lines or wrinkles.

tarte fall collection 2The Rainforest After Dark palette is about as big as my hand. There are so many color choices here that would be flattering on light to medium skin tones. For darker skin, I’m not sure how well the bronzer, blush, or some of the eyeshadow shades would show up.

Sometimes I am looking for a grab and go makeup palette that is hard to screw up. If I apply these shades in a rush I am not going to end up looking like a clown. They are easy to wear and in natural tones that flatter me.

tarte swatches 1Highlighter- Champagne, Bronzer- Park Ave Princess, Blush- Unleashed (a nude rose)

At first glance, I didn’t think the bronzer looked like anything special, but it just so turns out this is my favorite part of the whole palette! It’s a lighter bronzer than I’m used to wearing in the summer, but I’m glad I gave it a shot because it is SO flattering. It is barely there at all, but when I go to contour and add a little color it really blends right into my skin. I think people with fair skin would love this bronzer! The highlighter is also pretty nice, and the blush is a shade I would reach for for everyday. Really easy to wear and hard to overdo!

tarte swatches 2Bare to Explore (pink beige), Make a Mauve (plum mauve), Plum Away With Me (dark plum)

Bare to Explore has made a great all over lid shade for me, and Plum Away With Me looks great in the crease. Make a Mauve doesn’t have great color payoff and looks a little murky on my skin tone, so I’ve been using this the least of any of the other shades. When I mix the Make a Mauve and the Plum Away With Me, it lightens up the deep plum shade and I’m able to get a shade somewhere in the middle. That’s one of the ways I like to wear these shades- do a little mixology!

tarte swatches 3Up to no Gold (gold), Tan-gled up in You (tan), Don’t Turn a-Brown (dark brown)

The gold here is perfection. I’ve been using this all over my lid, and as a transition shade between my lid and my crease colors. It is so pretty yet subtle! I also am loving the tan and the dark brown matte shades pictured here. I wear each shade as is, and I have also enjoyed mixing them together in the crease. I judge palettes based upon whether or not they have a good deep matte brown, and I also like to have a lighter brown option as well, so I am super pleased with the selection here!

tarte rainforest after dark on eyesThis is a really simple eye look that I created using the Bare to Explore all over my lid, Up to no Gold as a transition shade, and by mixing Tan-gled up in You and Don’t turn a-Brown into the crease. Bare with me as I get terrible lighting in my house and I’m still trying to figure out how to best operate my camera settings when I’m outside on my shady deck trying to capture my makeup look. It’s not as easy as it sounds like it would be, but it’s something I’m working on!

All in all, this palette has taken me from needing a bunch of stand alone products (bronzer, blush, highlighter, and an eyeshadow palette or two) to just grabbing this for a weekend away. I challenged myself to take only this palette out of town two separate weekends and I didn’t find myself wanting for more makeup choices, so to me that’s pretty fantastic. I am usually the girl who packs to the gills with a roller suitcase for days away from home. There may be hope for me yet!

Will you be picking this up? I’d love to hear if you have tried that Park Ave Princess bronzer and loved it- talk about a hidden gem! I can’t believe I have never tried it until now!

I’m not sure if I’m going to pick this one up but it does seem like such a great deal to have the blush/bronzer/highlighter in with the shadows, too!

I love everything about tarte but their shadows are just so so. I’m hoping these are better because I really want to snag this palette.

I bought this palette, and I really love it. It’s great on lighter skin tones like mine, and purple looks especially good on us brown-eyed folks. I didn’t think I’d care much about the bronzer, but like you said, it’s a great color, and I ended up loving it and the highlighter and blush, too. Total win with this palette for me.
