I have been wanting to grab a foundation with SPF and when I saw Tarte had a new one out, I knew that would be the one. I love the Shape Tape foundations, and the Amazonian Clay formula so I already know I love the way Tarte does foundation. I don’t have anything with light-medium coverage from Tarte so I was eager to try the Babassu. Read on for my Tarte Babassu Foundcealer Wear Test and Review!
What it is: A vegan makeup and skincare hybrid that’s an everyday foundation for achieving an ultra-comfortable, natural-radiant finish and custom coverage.
Tarte Babassu Foundcealer
All about Tarte Babassu Foundcealer
This is a medium coverage buildable foundation with SPF and great for all skin types. I love the ingredients which include hyaluronic acid, which is great for skin that needs moisture. I don’t know much about babassu other than the fact it’s a brazilian palm with properties similar to coconut oil. It’s a makeup/skincare hybrid which I LOVE. Y’all know I love a makeup product that has great skincare build right in. My 32 year old skin loves when my makeup is more than makeup.
Ingredient Callouts: Free of parabens, formaldehydes, phthalates, mineral oil, and triclosan. This product is also vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free.
Babassu Foundcealer Wear Test
This applied in sheer-medium coverage initially and I was able to build it up a little more in the places that needed more coverage. I applied it with a dampened beauty blender and blended the first layer into my skin before going back for another coat. I thought it made my skin look hydrated, healthy, and glowing.
Within four hours of wear, I noticed it still looked fresh and perfect. There was no cracking, caking, or settling.
Within eight hours of wear, it was starting to break down in some places. I don’t often go this long without touching up my makeup so it wasn’t a big deal and I would still consider this long wearing, but not great for special occasions.
Although I really liked this foundation, I was confused by the name of it. The word “foundcealer” implies that there will be concealer-like coverage. I would have expected a thicker, longer wearing foundation with coverage like Shape Tape. But instead this is a medium consistency, buildable coverage sheer to medium formula.
The final verdict?
This made my skin look super healthy and hydrated and would be perfect for every day wear. Set it with a powder and a setting spray to get a little more wear time from the formula. If you are looking for 8+ hour coverage, you’ll need a touchup. For flattering, natural looking every day makeup, this gets an A+ from me!
