I love trying quirky new products, and bonus points if they are an industry-first. Recently I was checking online to purchase some new SPF products since summer is around the corner, and what did I stumble upon? The first ever SPF 30 cream eyeshadow. What a cool thing right? The skin on your eyelids is easily missed when it comes to applying sunscreen, so why not pick up a broad spectrum sun protection for your lids while looking pretty?
I am super picky about cream eyeshadow, so skeptical that I would enjoy this formula. Supergoop! just came out with three of the Shimmershade Illuminating Cream Eyeshadow SPF 30 so I tried the lightest shade, First Light.
It’s very easy to use. You can swipe your finger in the container and pat it in place. The shade First Light is a neutral shimmery beige and a shade I reach for every day. You can wear it on it’s own, layer it, put it on the corner of your eyes, and I’m sure it would work as highlighter too! It works as a primer that you can layer eyeshadow on as well. It’s very creamy and unlike some other cream formulas that you have to really dig into, it’s kind of “fluffy” and whipped so I know it’s not going to dry out on me overnight.
I had mixed feelings about this product even before I purchased it. For one, it seems kind of pointless to use, as I’m not always thinking to wear makeup at the beach. For two, I often use a spray with SPF on my entire face (obviously including my eyelids). So do I really need to spritz myself AND have an eyeshadow with SPF? Probably not. Oh yeah…and you have to reapply your sun protection every 90 minutes when you’re outside. Do you see yourself reapplying eyeshadow while you’re at the beach? NO!!!
But, curiosity got me, and I gave this a shot. And I’ll admit, I really fell in love with the whipped texture and the gorgeous, subtle sheen of the eyeshadow. I had already practically talked myself into returning this before it arrived in the mail, but I ended up falling in love. Supergoop! has pretty clean formulas in everything, so even besides having SPF in it, it’s a pretty safe product to use.
So what do I think? I have a cream eyeshadow I love by Milk Makeup but aside from that one, I haven’t purchased cream shadow in ages. I really love this formula, and I know I’ll be using it until it’s gone. It is really pretty, even if I know I’m not going to pack it for my beach trips and reapply it every 90 minutes.

All in all, this was a great buy. What do you think? Would you buy something like this? What’s the most innovative product you’ve used recently?
