Sun Safe Skincare

Whether it’s cold out or warm out, you should always wear SPF. Of course, in the summer with the rays beating down on me, I’m even more conscious of being sun safe. I have lots of skincare needs in the summer (dark spots, lots of hydration, etc) and Murad’s Shade America Sun Safety Set has two products that promise to kick butt for the summer. One is a treatment for environmental damage and the other is an antioxidant-rich sun protectant. Did they work?

murad skincare for summerFirst, the Advanced Active Radiance Serum. This is a treatment serum meant to rapidly boost radiance and reverse visible signs of environmental damage. The Resilient-C Complex delivers highly stable vitamin C- with 50 times the potency of prior generations- to improve skin radiance, support natural collagen production, and protect against free radical damage. I’ve been using 3-4 pumps of this on my face and neck morning and night. It might be making a very slight difference, but if it is, it’s hard to tell. Honestly, the only true way to rewind environmental damage is by getting any dark spots lasered off. The formula does make my skin really smooth and soft, and makes it look maybe a touch brighter!

The Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 30 PA+++ is a moisturizer that shields and revitalizes environmentally stressed skin. I use about a generous half dollar size on my face and neck, making sure to get it into my hairline and behind my ears. Anywhere the sun could hit! The formula is supposed to increase and preserve hydration for healthier-looking skin. Since this has SPF, I’ve been using it only as my day lotion, and using something else at night. I’ve noticed my skin seems to look a little firmer, and also more hydrated. I tend to get these temporary fine lines in my forehead when my skin is dry, but since I began using this moisturizer during the day, the lines seem to have plumped up. I really think it’s helping my skin retain more water!

sun safety checklistThis kit came with a little flier detailing some sun tips- some are pretty no brainer, and others I didn’t know. I used tanning beds a fair amount in high school, which is a HUGE no no, and just had a mole removed from the back of my leg last week. I’m kind of freaked about it, but the important thing is that I stopped indoor tanning. I am also much more careful when I am outdoors now. Murad is donating $125,000 to the American Academy of Dermatology through the sales of this set, to build shade structures across America to protect a new sun-smart generation from sun damage and skin cancer. I think it’s definitely a worthy cause!

murad skincare flyerThe Shade America Sun Safety Set is retailing at Ulta for $68. You’ll get a 0.5 oz bottle of the serum, and a 1.7 oz bottle of the cream. I think that’s a decent deal, but I still wish you were getting more product for the price. It’s not terribly difficult to find a good serum or SPF skincare for a lower price point, and with the amount of SPF you need on your face the lotion will only last you a few weeks when used every day. It’s a quality set though, so if you’re a fan of Murad and these target your skincare concerns, you’re going to love them!

These sound like great SPF options and I am still in search of what I’ll use this summer for face and body.

I don’t like that sunscreen scent, so having it in a face lotion is usually ideal for me. It’s so hard for me to remember to use SPF – and I live in Florida!
