In the past, I’ve not been one to put a whole lot of thought into my hair routine. I’ve been a wash and go girl for years and my long hair often ends up in a top knot unless I’m going somewhere special. Recently, I tried the Tyme iron and it has really inspired me to try harder for nice hair on a daily basis.
The Tyme iron has been trending on Facebook for months, and I was recently sent one to try out. It was hard to get the hang of at first, but now I’m really enjoying it. I had a couple one-on-one sessions with their stylists to learn how to best use it and it made all the difference in the world for me. I was inspired to style my hair more often, but with that I realized I needed to be upping my hair care routine. I want curls to last so I need to use hairspray. And I don’t want to damage my hair, so I need heat protectant. I’ve been using a lot more products on a daily basis than I have in years (probably since I left the workforce to be a SAHM five years ago!) and it’s been admittedly kind of fun to be more high maintenance! I wanted to share with you some of the products I am using below!
For shampoo and conditioner, I am using the Kevin Murphy Line. I have used the Repair-Me.Wash and the Repair-Me.Rinse for weeks now and I’m really enjoying them. This is the first time I’ve written about the brand but not the first time I’ve used these products. My hair stylist in Spokane, WA used this line and I loved them then! Besides smelling amazing, this duo has a lot of hair healthy ingredients. They leave my hair shiny, impossibly soft, and they have protein to strengthen the hair. Since I’ve been heat styling a lot, this part is especially important to me!
I hadn’t used a hair mask in months when suddenly I came across several that I wanted to try. The current hair mask I am using is Joico K-Pak Color Therapy Luster Lock Instant Shine and Repair Treatment. You guys. This is one of the best hair treatments I’ve come across. I use a generous dallop of this after I’ve shampooed and conditioned, and let it sit while I shave my legs, wash my face, etc. When I rinse this out, my hair is absolutely perfect. I’m left with amazing shine, super soft and detangled hair, and color that is so vibrant it practically shimmers. I have had the ombré do for a few years now and I know all too well how the ends can start to look like straw if they’re not well taken care of. I’m beginning to think that a hair mask is the answer to keeping ombré looking super fresh like it was just done yesterday!
Next, I’ve been loving my Tyme iron. I can’t wait to share more info with you on this. It deserves its own post. But just put it this way- I didn’t like it at first, but after sitting through two one-on-one sessions I have learned SO MUCH about how to style my hair. If you don’t have one of these, you should watch some of their YouTube tutorials and get out your flat iron and apply the same principles to using it as a curling wand. I was never able to do flat iron curls but after learning a bit more about my form, I am seeing what I have been doing wrong all this time. I’ve never had bad hair but I’ve never been able to style it as well as the salon does. I’m still not totally there but I’m really enjoying my newfound love for styling my hair at the moment!
I haven’t really done too much heat styling in the past four years since my oldest daughter was born. Most of this is due to lack of time, but also, I go to bed with wet hair most of the time anymore. Once I had little ones under foot, I was too afraid to ruin a nap or a good night’s sleep for anyone by turning on a noisy blowdryer. Since I have super thick hair, it takes forever to dry if I’m not blowdrying it. For this reason, I haven’t really used heat protectant consistently in years. Now that I’m heat styling more frequently, I need to make sure I don’t destroy my hair, so I’m getting back into using heat protectant. Two products by Davines have been in my rotation lately for this purpose.
Davines Oi All in One Milk is an awesome multipurpose spray that I am loving. It does basically everything from adding shine and detangling to being a heat protectant. I have been spraying this generously on my hair right before heat styling and it’s been working wonders on my hair. It doesn’t feel like it’s adding extra weight and product buildup to my hair, my hair stays frizz-free throughout the day, and it keeps things soft and silky. Sometimes I will rotate between this and the Davines Melu Hair Shield depending on my mood. The hair shield is mostly a heat protectant without the all-in-one. This adds a bit of texture to my hair, so I’ll often use it to recurl just a few strands of second or third day old hair to add new life to my hairstyle.
Lastly, on days that I heat style I will sometimes use a hairspray, and I’ve been reaching for Kevin Murphy Session.Spray. I’m loving this for summer time because it’s not sticky, it’s weightless, and it has a UV shield so it’s protecting my hair from the summer sun. Even with the extreme humidity we’ve had this summer, my hair isn’t wilting midday with this, and I can get a brush through my hair after using this if I want to brush out my curls.
That pretty much sums up what I’m using in my hair lately! I feel like I don’t cover hair products very often on here but that might be changing soon! I’m realizing that when I style my hair consistently I really blow through hair products in a hurry! It’s been fun taking new interest in my hair!
What hair products do you use? Do you recognize any of these? I’d love to know if you’ve tried any of the same brands!
