Turning on the news lately can be depressing and I’ve been yearning to do something to feel like I’m making a difference. I’m a stay at home and I don’t have a huge budget so what am I to do? I decided that spreading kindness and love starts at home. It doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to make a gift basket to give to someone in need, and the holiday season is perfect timing. I’ve been brainstorming what we could do to make someone’s day and I headed to Walmart to pick up some giftable items.
It struck me that fragrance is something that evokes memories like nothing else. I can go through any of my perfumes in my house and tell you when and where I have worn it. I remember the scent I wore on my first date with my husband, on my wedding day, and even to high school dances. I love fragrance and I had been enjoying Katy Perry Mad Potion that I was given for review a while back so I decided that buying a gift set of that scent would be a good starting place. This scent just came out in the fall of 2015 and I haven’t had it long but it is so appealing to me. The notes combine vanilla orchid, peony, and apple musk with a heart of bourbon vanilla, jasmine petals with a base of amber. To me, it smells familiar. There are a lot of cozy, yummy scents out there but with an adorable purple potion bottle, I think this will appeal to teenagers.
I didn’t want to stop there so I picked up some cookie dough and cookie cutters. I love the idea of baking cookies to put in a box and I had a lot of fun putting this basket together. I’m going to make a list of things that would work well together in a gift box and get together some friends to help me piece some boxes together. I have a lot of extra fragrances and beauty products from blogging that are unopened extras and if I got some friends together I’m sure we could all think of something to add to the mix. When I was at Walmart picking out which fragrance set to get, I noticed several inexpensive items in the $1-3 range in the same aisle that would all be perfect add ons for a gift!
The holidays can be a hectic time, but don’t forget to stop and smell the roses. We have been so busy this year but the things keeping us that way are all a blessing. My husband has a great job, he has the opportunity to advance in his degree path, and we have great kids who are involved in things. I loved putting together this little gift box and it’s given me the momentum I needed to find the perfect gifts for other families in need. Everyone needs a little pampering from time to time and I can’t wait to pay it forward!
