I don’t shop at MAC often or keep up with their collections because I know it would be bad for my wallet! My last big MAC purchase was last summer, when the Heroine collection was calling my name. I’m a sucker for purple and that shade is perfection. I’m so happy they brought it to their line for keeps now. Anyway, I was reading blog reviews the other day online and I stumbled upon MAC’s new Alluring Aquatic collection, and saw some swatches of Goddess of the Sea and I just KNEW I had to have it. So I snapped it up and today I’m going to show you!
Like I said, I’m a sucker for purples, so the first thing that strikes me about this lipstick is the gorgeous purple shade. It’s described as a dark, vibrant, violet. The shade is unique in that it will look completely different now when I have a tan than in the winter when I am pale. I think it looks a little more every day natural in the summer and in the winter it will look a little more vampy.
The other thing that strikes me about this shade is obviously the packaging. I mean, seriously! Look at it, it’s gorgeous! Both the cardboard packaging and the tube are a lovely metallic teal color and there are raised up water droplets all over the tube. I am obsessed with how gorgeous the tube is. It almost wouldn’t even matter what the shade inside was!
I only own a couple MAC lipsticks but this one is the Cremesheen formula. I have read in reviews that within that specific formula everything is vanilla scented. Goddess of the Sea is no exception. It has a lovely vanilla scent, but no taste. I find the formula to be hydrating as well! This shade lasts for 4-5 hours on me and fades a little bit after eating or drinking.
The swatch above is a few swipes of this built up. It looks like a medium plum with cooler undertones, above although when I wear it in certain lighting it comes across as more pinky-purple. In the swatch on my lips below, the lighting is a bit yellow but it does accurately reflect what the shade looks like on me.
