I was obsessed with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders last year and after much hemming and hawing and probably five trips to Sephora, I eventually settled on two that I wanted. I purchased them, loved them, used them for a couple weeks, and wouldn’t you know, almost immediately after my purchase, Sephora came out with THIS. I immediately wished I had waited for a palette, although I have gotten a lot of mileage out of all the shades of Ambient Lighting Powder that I own.
Of course, the Ambient Lighting Blush came out several months ago and instead of springing for them immediately, I remembered what happened last time, and thought I’d hold out. When the blush palette released, I wasn’t sure I wanted it because I really do have SO much blush. Then I was thinking about how I would feel if this was limited and I missed out, and I realized I better pounce while they were still in stores.
Evoke a luminous glow with this soft-focus cheek palette. Hourglass has fused Ambient Lighting Powder, its cutting-edge collection of finishing powders, with an array of vivid cheek colors, creating a hybrid product that is unique, contemporary, and revolutionary. Infused with Photoluminescent Technology to create depth and dimension, this blush does not fall flat and is lightweight, amplifying the colors to a multidimensional level, and leaving the entire complexion with an otherworldly glow. Featuring Incandescent Electra, an exclusive, limited-edition shade in a cool peach, this palette also includes Luminous Flush, a champagne rose and Mood Exposure, a soft plum color. The handmade powders are formulated using an advanced miscelare technique, which means “to mix” in Italian. This process achieves the perfect balance of pigment and powder. No two look alike, but all deliver a natural radiant finish that offers buildable color.
I can’t get over how pretty they are. They basically glow when you wear them. Every time I think of these blushes, I think about high school. I was so excited to wear makeup 10-15 years ago and loved everything about it. I wore what would have been considered cutting edge makeup back then, and really, there was nothing impressive about it! Now we have ethereal, glowing powders that make you look lit from within. Blush is one of the most intimidating makeup items already because so many people don’t understand how to wear it without looking like a clown, but these are so different than your average blush! I wonder what we will have for makeup in 10 more years. I predict that whatever we apply during the day will transform itself to a nighttime look before our very eyes without us even reapplying it!

Can you see how multi dimensional the colors look in my swatches? Each swatch is a generous swipe of the finger one time in the pan. They are so luminous!
One thing I’ve read across the board in most every review I’ve seen of these is that how they look on you depends on how much color is in the pan vs. how much powder is in the pan. These are mixed with the ambient powders in swirls. If the pan has more powder than blush color, you won’t get as much pigment out of the pan and you’ll have to apply more to get the same effect. I have a generous amount of color in my pan so I am pretty happy with mine!
I really think Hourglass is on the forefront of makeup technology with their powders and blushes. There are other powders and blushes with luminizing properties, but they don’t hold a candle to Hourglass’s products in my opinion. For many, these would be reserved for special occasion makeup, but I really love wearing the blushes and powders daily, because it adds that extra something special to my makeup routine and I can tell a difference in the way my skin looks.
