I am always on the hunt for new and exciting products to try. Over the years I’ve actually found it harder than ever to find makeup and skincare that stand out from the crowd. The beauty industry has completely exploded in the last several years, with so many brands coming out of the woodwork and everyone wanting to launch the next new thing. The result has been a lot of okay-ish releases and not a whole lot that rises above the average and sticks out as something I want to buy. I have found a handful of unique launches, and today’s review includes something that really wowed me, something average, and something “meh.”
Buxom Pillow Pout Creamy Plumping Lip Powder
I’ll start with the spectacular. I have been absolutely enamored by the Buxom Pillow Pout Creamy Plumping Lip Powder. What do I love about these? This is a trend that has been around since I started reading beauty magazine articles in middle school, and it’s finally something easy to achieve. When you think about different beauty hacks, what comes to mind? I always think about the magazine articles from yesteryear (it seems like a long time ago that I would frequently read magazines since blogs are FREE to read and I’m more plugged in to that form of media these days!) and the beauty columns that would have great advice.
Blot your oily face with a toilet seat cover instead of blotting paper.
Roll your beauty puff across your face instead of patting or smearing it.
Use Aquaphor as a brow gel, cheek highlight, and lip balm.
Blot your lipstick with a tissue and apply a dusting of powder to get it to stay longer.
That last one was something I ALWAYS did throughout school with my lipstick. I have always been someone who loved to wear lipstick but struggled with long lasting wear. Back when I was in high school, there wasn’t as much selection to choose from. We didn’t have liquid lipstick so we had to make do with beauty hacks like this one.
The Buxom Pillow Pout Creamy Plumping Lip Powder is a unique product that allows for a blotted, semi-matte finish brought to you by a sponge applicator. It’s weightless, and leaves an effortless, stained effect behind. Applying my lipstick with a sponge is a game changer, and totally reminds me of the lipstick looks I did in high school, where you’d start with your lipstick, and then blot and powder it and pretty soon it would look exactly like these do. Except for this is SO much easier. The result is smudge-proof, long lasting, and mess-free. The color is vivid but it almost looks like it’s soaked into my lips rather than being painted on.
It almost looks like you’re not wearing lipstick but you are. The effect is similar to wearing a lip stain. None of this really blots off and it’s weightless. When I rub my lips together, I can’t even feel the lipstick on my lips. There is a slight minty scent and tingle which is where I’m guessing the plumping claims come from. I didn’t notice my lips looking fuller, but they did feel tingly.
In terms of shades, the shade range is oddly similar. Most of the shades seem to be in the nude-pink range. Don’t get me wrong, that’s my favorite kind of shade! But it throws me off because I expected a wider variety. I am a fan of most of the shades aside from the really dark, which seemed a bit drying and emphasized patchiness and dryness in my lips that the other shades didn’t.
All in all- you NEED to pick out at least one shade of the Pillow Pout– they are super innovative and fun and I love the unique effect!

Buxom Lash Volumizing Mascara
I’m very picky about mascara. I want it all- volume, length, dark dramatic lashes, etc. I’m super picky about mascara and the Buxom Lash Volumizing mascara didn’t wow me. I am the first to admit I’m probably TOO picky though, and I could easily see myself changing my mind about this after several uses. If you look at the selfie of me below, you’ll see that it’s nice and does the job for every day, but I love the false lash look which I’m not getting with this. I’m keeping it in my makeup bag, and I’ll let you know if I have a change of heart.
Buxom Divine Goddess Luminizer
I love fresh looking, highlighted skin. This is a gorgeous lightweight face and body luminizer that works well applied over makeup to the high points of the face, mixed in with foundation, or all all over. I’ve used many products like this in the past and I tend to reach for them all the time in the summer to put on my arms and legs. Divine Goddess Luminizer also looks beautiful on the collarbone area in the winter to add a healthy glow to the skin. This formula blends out easily, has a sheer and shimmering finish, and looks amazing all the time. Whether this is something you’d ever try or not, you can’t deny the name is amazing. Anything with the words divine, goddess, and luminizer in the name…I’ll take two!
Buxom Power Plump Lip Balm
I’m always reaching for lip balm. I keep several in my car, in the kitchen, my purse, and all around the house. Of course I’m going to love one that works with your PH level to transform to a custom shade. The shade Glowing is a gorgeous neutral that applies super soft and smooth with a slight tingle while it’s moisturizing. The color change is slight but it’s there. Overall, I like it but it performs the same as a lot of similar products. If you’re looking for one thing of the bunch that I’m talking about, this one would be a pass. (Grab the lip powder instead!)
I’m loving some of these Buxom finds. The Plumping Lip Powder in Cozy Up is my favorite find of the whole thing. I’ve been wearing it on repeat daily! What is your favorite product I mentioned? Will any of them be in your shopping cart?
