Let’s face it, most of the year I just don’t make time for self tanning. It can be a lot of work and it often smells bad and the results are not always great. But lately I’m changing my tune, because I’ve been trying out some really great tanning products that make tanning at home an absolute joy. They don’t stink, they aren’t unpleasant to use, and they don’t make me break out. It really doesn’t get much better than that!
The first product I want to mention is Eco Tan Face Tan Water. This popped up as an ad on my computer and one day I clicked on it and after thinking about it for a few weeks, I bought it on Amazon. This is hands down the best face tanner I have EVER used. It makes the whole process pleasant.
This is suitable for all skin types. I tend to be on the drier side and it feels great on my skin. When I use this at night, I put about five shakes of the bottle (it has a small hole in the top) into the palm of my hands and saturate my face and neck. This can replace your toner and moisturizer or you can put skincare on top too. The consistency is the same as water. On nights I use this, I will wash my face, apply this to my face and neck, do the rest of my nighttime routine (take out my contacts, brush my teeth, etc.) and then come back in with my serums and moisturizer. I like giving it that few minutes to set. I’ve also used this during the day time and put makeup on top, and I think it does a nice job developing a tan for me over the span of the day.
Within about 2-3 applications you will see your skin deepen 2-3 shades. It’s not going to take you from pasty to end-of-summer tan, but it definitely deepens my skin tone enough that I can move to a darker foundation shade. In the picture above, I wore this for just one night and you can see how much it deepened my complexion. In just one night, the difference is subtle but I like it!
Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice* Glycerin*, Dihydroxyacetone**, Lecithin*, Fusel Wheat Bran/Straw Glycosides**, Polyglyceryl-5 Oleate**, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate**, Glyceryl, Caprylate**, Coco Caprylate**, Sodium Hyaluronate**, Dehydroxanthan Gum**, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate**, Pelargonium graveolens Flower Oil*, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil*. *Certified Organic **Natural
Since we are still talking abut the face, I wanted to mention a recent addition to my makeup bag, the gloMinerals bronzer in Sunkiss. I like to use bronzer ever day but I like something that’s not going to be a glitter bomb on my face. I’m 30 and although I do love shimmer, I don’t love it in my bronzer! I tend to appreciate matte bronzers more than anything else. That said, this has a deeper matte section, and a lighter shimmery section and I am LOVING it. You can swirl your whole brush in there and mix the two shades together like I do, or try to get one or the other on your brush to bronze, contour, and lightly highlight. This is really ideal for my light skin, and gives me a lit-from-within and natural looking glow. Love it!

Last but not least, I’ve discovered a really great line of body tanners! NKDSKN is from the same company that brought us Vita Liberata and they are so good. There are five items in their collection, and all of their tanning formulas are infused with organic and natural skincare extracts, are paraben, perfume and alcohol free, and dries instantly on skin. My absolute favorite product of theirs right now is the Pre-Shower Tan.
I LOVE that this gradual tanner has no smell (none of the NKDSKN products do!) and it is so easy to apply. I put it on 10 minutes before my shower, and then rinse it off. I applied this pretty generously because I wasn’t sure what to expect. It gives me a really subtle glow and made my skin look and feel great and really soft. I took the pictures below before I took a shower or applied the Pre-Shower Tan, and then the morning after I applied it. I can’t believe the difference! And it lasts on me for several days.
The only thing I might have tried to do differently with this sunless tanner is not shave my legs right after having applied it. However, I do shave in the shower and I didn’t want to skip it just for the sake of experimentation. I’m wearing different pants both of these times and have a slightly different angle, but you can where the bruise on my right shin is as a guide for how much of a difference this tanner made for me!
I absolutely despise the scent of sunless tanner and NDSKN not only doesn’t have that scent but it also works really well and has 100% natural ingredients. I think you know where I’m going with this. I’m sure this is where my product loyalties will lie in the future of any sunless tanning I do! Ingredients are below if you’re interested:
