Happy Friday! If you haven’t checked out my Friday Chit Chat yet, welcome! I just started this last week. It’s a way of getting to know you all better, as you get to know me better! I think I’m really going to enjoy doing these posts every Friday!
Last week I told you all I was going to celebrate my birthday out of town. I had a great time with old friends and it was so much fun to let my hair down and be kid-free for a couple days. We went to Dueling Pianos in Madison, shopped, hit up the food-coop for some organic beverages, and went in the pool and sauna at my friend’s awesome apartment community. If only every weekend could be so relaxing. I love summer!
My plans for summer vacation:
I purposely didn’t make any big plans. We are going to just hang out and have a great time. A few things on the calendar so far include camping at state parks all over Wisconsin, a couples trip to Las Vegas, and visiting family a whole bunch.
Last time we went to Las Vegas, we stayed at the SLS and enjoyed the Ciel Spa. We saw the Beatles Love Show, and walked around a bunch site seeing. I won $300 our last night there. It was super fun! This time around we hope to see more shows, and maybe the Bodies exhibit. Have you been to Vegas? Tell me what you loved to see in the comments. I need some ideas so I can keep planning!
Something I’ve been wanting to try:
I was a vegetarian for a couple years in college and I never felt better. I’m not the world’s most inventive cook, or the most talented, but I’d love to change that! I would really like to start creating some more plant-based meals. I’d love to learn a recipe for a veggie burger. Store bought are fine, but I’m a sucker for a homemade vegetarian burger. With a chipotle aoli style sauce and served on a bed of lettuce…basically my dream meal!

A project I’m working on right now:
I’m working on making my house into a home lately. We have been living here for two years now, and I am struggling with organization. Recently I started brainstorming what we could do to make this house feel more like “us” on a budget. I am actually in the process of starting a second blog to keep track of my DIY projects. I’m super excited! I’ll be working on the house, organizing my life, and documenting it all. I’ll let you know when it’s live so you can follow along.
If you were going to follow along with an organizational and DIY blog, what types of articles appeal to you most? Tips and tricks? Easy DIY? Cricut projects? Complicated stuff? Tell me what you like to read.
My summer goal:
Once upon a time, we got rid of all our debt, aside from my student loans and our mortgage. And then life happened, and we got back on the hamster wheel. I mentioned in last week’s post that we bought a new (to us) van. Life just gets expensive when the unexpected comes up. And that’s how we ended up swiping our credit card again, and again, and again.
A big goal of mine this summer is to get back out of credit card debt. We don’t have that much to pay off, but the challenge will be retraining our brains not to use it again. We’ve been down this path and I know it’s possible. We have followed Dave Ramsey and Suze Orman in the past, and we plan to take some of their techniques mixed with some of our own that have worked for us before. For example, cash envelopes don’t really jive with us. We shop online for some things, so it’s just a pain.
Have you ever had credit card debt? Or paid it off? Tell me how you did in the comments below. It can be so stressful to pay down debt, but the feeling you get when you accomplish being debt free is so amazing, it’s worth it.
A healthy tip I’m loving:
Lately, I’ve been trying to drink more water. I drink Isagenix shakes every morning, take the supplements, and the anti-stress tea and it’s LIFE CHANGING. But…the other key to weight loss and healthy living is simple and FREE and that is to just drink more water. I’m infusing mine with fruit and keeping a huge jug in the fridge. It’s really forcing me to drink a bunch since I’ve been experimenting with fun flavors. Nectarine cucumber and strawberry mint have been two super fun combos.
Another reason to look forward to the weekend:
I mentioned I’m really into DIY lately, but I also want to get some awesome furniture for our house that makes more sense than what we currently have. Not just to have things that are more visually appealing or nicer, but also things that are functional. I’ve been looking at creating “lockers” in our dining room, which acts more like the kids’ craft area right now. I would like them each to have their own cubby space for the things they’re working on.
And looking for more furniture has led me to Facebook marketplace! I’m scouring there every day for bookshelves, cabinets, etc. And I’m looking forward to the weekends this summer for garage sales! Many times garage sales can be junk, but other times I’ve found diamonds in the rough. One person’s trash is another’s treasure they say.
