Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I worked my butt off to create our Fall schedule this year. Our oldest just started 4k and seemingly overnight, life got very busy. The girls are in a few activities, plus add school to the mix, and you know how it goes. For that reason, once a week when the kids have church night, mom and the baby have our weekly Target night. We grab a few things we need and we have just enough time to grab the basics before we have to be back again.

Knowing how busy we are, I recently grabbed some kid and dog essentials as well as a few DIY craft supplies for Christmas gifts. I know I’m really ahead of the game here, but it’s important to me that my kids DIY their own gifts to people. I want them to grow up to become thoughtful individuals so I want them to learn the importance of creating something for a gift for someone else.

Before I talk about kid crafts, can I take a moment to talk about Ruckus? I don’t gush about him enough. In his “old” age (he’s 7) he is usually found laying around somewhere on a couch or on a bed. He was a very spirited puppy and he is still very playful, but for the most part, he lays back and hopes someone will give him a treat. The kids are always spilling food from their high chairs or trying to sneak him parts of their dinner they don’t want, so he gets spoiled more than a little bit around here.

For that reason, I always make sure to feed him the best dog food. When we got him as a puppy, the breeder gave us a couple days supply of Purina® ONE® Smartblend Chicken & Rice. Back then, we fed him the puppy version, but we have just kept right on with buying it over the years. It has real chicken as the first ingredient blended with other high-quality protein sources to support strong muscles and a healthy heart. Because sneaking bites of leftover pizza and macaroni doesn’t exactly make your coat shiny or keep your joints healthy, ya know?

In the picture above, you can see that he’s got his eye closed. He had some health issues early on but has been in the clear for a few years now so we’re counting ourselves lucky. We’ll keep on keeping on with the Purina One dog food and hope for the best for Ruckus! In the meantime, if he ever flashes his bum eye at us, we know he is hoping for some sympathy treats and nice pets. Ha!

As you can see, it’s nearly impossible to get a great kid picture with the dog. They love him to pieces, but trying to get everyone to focus at once? Practically impossible. The same goes for when I try to do any sort of craft with kids. I have to lure them in with treats if I want even 30 seconds of their undivided attention. Knowing I was going to be making a Christmas craft with the kids, I picked up some little munchies. These were mainly for my one year old, but to be honest, my 3 and 5 year old still enjoy these little goodies when we stock them at home. All of my kids grew up eating these little Gerber® Graduates from the time they were babies!

Two of our favorite little crunchy treats are the Gerber Graduates Strawberry Yogurt Melts and the Lil’ Crunchies Mild Cheddar snacks. I love that the yogurt melts are made with real yogurt and fruit, and have live and active cultures. The Lil’ Crunchies are also great because they’re a little bigger and very easy for a one year old to pick up. Most importantly, both of these treats easily dissolve and melt in your mouth. This is so important when giving a little kiddo a treat! I’m always worrying about choking but I don’t need to if the snacks dissolve!

In exchange for giving me a hand or a thumb to imprint, I would let my one year old take a yogurt melt. It worked like a charm! Check out my DIY tutorial for these cute little crafts!

I’m just getting started with these and I have so many neat ideas for what we can make next!

These ornaments are the perfect way to memorialize baby and pet’s holiday this year. As far as getting a dog and a baby to stand still for photos, that’s a whole other challenge! #client
