One of my absolute favorite brands recently came out with something super innovative and fun and I am SO excited to share this with you. First, I have to confess when I opened this box and saw what was inside, I sighed. LOL I have dry skin and I’m 31 and actual shimmer in products (not microshimmer- but real glitter) kind of makes my eyes roll! I do not think it flatters me well. I should have known that Cover FX knows a thing or two because I’ve never tried something by them and not been blown away. Cover FX Shimmer Veils are no exception. I have been completely obsessed with the new Shimmer Veils even though they are NOT something I would have been drawn to on my own. I literally can’t put them down!
Cover FX Shimmer Veils
OK- so what are they?! This is a product with multidimensional shimmer in a weightless cream texture for high impact, crease-proof shimmering effects anywhere on the face. You can use this as an eyeshadow or a highlighter. It applies with the wand (it looks like a tube of lip gloss!) and from there I typically grab some off with my finger and apply that way. The texture is creamy, and it’s workable for a second before drying down. The result is beautiful, monochromatic, transfer proof shimmer that can be worn subtle OR built up to bold, and looks absolutely STUNNING in dim lighting.
There are currently six shades available. In the swatches above I built the color up to opacity so you could see how bold they can become!
Celestial: glistening pearl shimmer; Halo: holographic, multi-dimensional shimmer; Magic: shimmering blush champagne; Amethyst: iridescent lavender shimmer; Moonstone: shimmering topaz; Soleil: shimmering peachy pink
I’ve had a chance to play with these for about a week and I can’t put them down. I think what sets them apart as a fun product is the fact that I own nothing like it! I’m not very drawn to actual glitter on my face because it tends to get EVERYWHERE but these are not like that at all. Once I applied the Shimmer Veil, it didn’t budge. I tried them as eyeshadow, highlighter, and a lip topper!
As an eyeshadow, I found they stayed really well even without a primer. I tend to put my foundation and powder on my lids as a base, and add a crease color and then go in with this over top. It wore beautifully without fallout but I would be curious how it would perform with a glitter primer; most of the time I wear a really easy makeup look but something like glitter primer might help with a more precise application. As a lip topper, they get lost in a creamy lipstick, so you’d want to add it over a matte formula. And as a highlighter: perfection!

In case you have a hard time wrapping your head around how these might compare to other highlighting/glow products from Cover FX, I wanted to answer a couple questions you might have!
How do these compare to the Glitter Drops?
How do these compare to the Custom Enhancer drops?
The Custom Enhancer Drops are more of a glisten/glow product while the Glitter Drops AND the Shimmer Veil contain glitter. The Custom Enhancer Drops are liquid metallic or liquid sunkissed finish and look great applied in certain areas or mixed in with foundation. I wouldn’t recommend applying the other two allover the face.
What do you think of the Shimmer Veil? I think it’s the perfect touch for your makeup routine when you are feeling extra! Which one will you be picking up?
