Best Beauty Finds of 2016

I am always testing out new beauty products and this year I have found SO many standout products that I found myself using and reusing products for months at a time rather than moving on to new items.

I made some changes to my beauty routine this year, and have started checking out cleaner options to some of my standard favorites. I don’t think I’ll ever go completely green, but I have loved testing out holistic skincare, wearing foundation with skincare ingredients in them, switching over to a natural deodorant (that actually works) and trying some new perfumes that have less toxic ingredients. I plan to touch upon some of these beauty swaps I am making on the blog in the weeks to come. Let me know if I mentioned any of your favorites in this post. I’ll link any reviews I’ve done below!

I had a lot of great skincare finds this year and I plan to repurchase each of the items I am talking about. I have been testing out a holistic skincare line that is rocking my world. I have normal/dry skin but am prone to acne at times. The Citrus Clear Pore & Blackhead Mask is completely rocking my world right now. I’ll have more about this in a future post, but it has become a fast favorite for me. The Pixi Rose Oil Blend (read review) was an unexpected find for me this year, but it’s one of the most luxurious oils I own right now and the price tag is pretty low considering! I’ve fallen completely in love with One Love Organics but my all time favorite thing I’ve discovered from their brand is the Vitamin B Cleanser (read review). It smells like pineapples and removes all traces of my makeup but leaves plenty of moisture behind. Clinique PepStart HydroBlur Moisturizer was a really fun find. I haven’t reviewed it here (yet) but I love that it acts as a primer and a moisturizer and even on non makeup days it helps my skin look great. PiperWai makes the best natural deodorant PERIOD. I didn’t think I’d ever find one that worked for me but I’m on my third tub and I’m still in love.

I wrote about three of my favorite foundations recently but if I had to narrow it even further I’d be ok with just my Clinique Superbalanced Silk and Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid. I’ve been singing the praises of my bareMinerals bareSkin Concealer (read reviewall year and I still love it just as much. Also, Tarte’s Shape Tape (read review) is a b* to track down because it’s always out of stock, but it’s every bit as fabulous as everyone says it is. Setting powder is all the rage this year and I’ve tried probably six or more this year that I really like. A great find was the ILIA Fade Into You Powder (read review). I love that I found an organic, talc-free powder and that I didn’t have to sacrifice quality. My skin feels like silk when I wear it! It Cosmetics Sunshine in a Compact (read reviewhas been the only bronzer I’ve worn since I’ve discovered it, and it’s been almost a year. I wear it nearly every day and I have yet to hit pan. Tarte’s Naughty Nudes were a great launch and I’ve been wearing them a bunch since they were released. Seduce (a rosy nude) is my favorite. Cover FX really nailed it this year with highlighters, and of the several I tried, I have to say the Celestial Custom Enhancer Drops (read review) and the Moonlight Perfect Light Highlighting Powder (read review) were my favorites.

My favorite eyeshadow palettes this year were the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette (read review) and the Tarteist Pro To Go palette. Every single shade in that little palette is one that I reach for and love so it’s super handy to have. My most used eyebrow product this year was the Jane Iredale Great Shape (read review). For lips, I’ve worn a lot of my lips but better and mauve-nude shades this year. Matte lipsticks tend to suck all the life out of my lips but not since I discovered the Anastasia Lip Primer (read review). I wear Sephora Cream Lipstain in 13 all the time and it’s the perfect rosy nude shade for me. I’m super excited to see that they have come out with several more shades of this formula recently. Urban Decay Backtalk and Bite Beauty Fig are two more super wearable every day shades that have gotten a ton of mileage from me this year.

Last but not least, perfume. What smells good to me has changed over the years and I am in the market for a fresh scent or something vanilla based. I don’t like overly floral perfumes anymore or anything that is too ultra sweet. Origins Ginger Essence is my favorite fragrance find of the year. I haven’t smelled anything quite like it. I tend to reach for this over just about anything I have, so I appreciate that it doesn’t contain parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrance, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs, or triclosan. My other favorite fragrance of the year is By Rosie Jane’s Tilly (read reviewfor similar reasons. It’s got grapefruit, coconut, and pineapple, yet it’s not overly sweet. I have the fragrance oil version and it’s subtle enough that I feel like I’m wearing it just for me.

This has been a great year for me in discovering new beauty products. I found a lot of new favorites. I didn’t jump on the bandwagon for many of these more popular items right away (Shape Tape, Custom Enhancer Drops, etc) and I was glad I did my research before buying things like I often do. As a result, most of the beauty products I bought this year I ended up loving! I’m on a budget for beauty just like everyone else, and although I love splurging on new things I need them to work for me. When you’re always chasing the next new release you don’t always have time to enjoy what you already own.

Do any of these beauty products speak to you? Share with me in the comments what some of your favorite finds of the year have been!
