Aquatic Inspired

I’ve had this fun post idea for a couple weeks now and I’m just now sitting down to write it. What are some aquatic inspired beauty products? I don’t mean that everything here is waterproof (it’s not!) or contains SPF (they don’t!) but I mean what do you use in the summer, when you’re going to the beach, to heal your skin, hair, etc afterwards, what lasts through a hot summer day…now you’re catching my drift.

I don’t wear a lot of makeup anyway on a daily basis, but in the summer I keep it super minimal. Shiseido UV Protective Liquid Foundation has a high SPF and keeps me matte. I couldn’t really ask for more! I reviewed it here. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye is a fabulous concealer that covers a multitude of sins, and it comes in waterproof as well!

Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Peacock is limited edition for fall. I will have a review up soon, but it is so screaming summer to me! It’s so sultry and shimmery and totally makes me think of the beach at night. Of course if you’re looking for something low maintenance and easy that you can just pop on, Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream Shadow in 2 Steel is a great base for a smoky eye or just to wear alone. By the same brand, Smoky Extravagant Waterproof Mascara is totally where it’s at if you are at the beach or sweating out a hot day. And both the cream shadow and mascara are waterproof! And of course, set everything with Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix. I have the small size that I keep in my purse or beach bag!

aquatic inspired 2For a clean and fresh summer scent, try Mer & Mistral by L’Occitane. This fragrance is inspired by a fresh breeze in the mountains and the sea. It’s an aquatic fragrance with top notes of lemon and mandarin, and a heart of cypress, pine and rosemary. Everything L’Occitane comes out with pretty much rocks my world and this is no exception. I think men and women alike could wear this, although my husband is very picky, and I don’t like to share, so I just take this one all for myself!

My hair becomes crisp like straw every summer. I have thick, coarse, long hair and it’s a real beast when I don’t take good care of it. Luckily (or unluckily, however you think of it) our apartment can’t handle any kind of electric overload. I normally let my hair air dry because if I’m showering it’s usually nighttime and everyone is asleep- god forbid I wake up a sleeping toddler- and if it’s daytime, I’m always wanted for something so it never works out that I can blow dry. I recently tried to blow dry my hair for the first time in four months, and I shorted out our circuit breaker four times. Nothing else was even plugged into the bathroom! SO frustrating. So with that problem alone, I’ve had no problem keeping heat styling damage away from my hair. However, I always use Moroccanoil Treatment in my hair after each shower. It keeps my hair soft and shiny and smells SO good. I’ve also recently discovered Alterna’s Caviar Repair Split Ends Mend. If I use this religiously on my hair, concentrating on the ends, it feels like I JUST had it cut until my next hair cut. It’s kind of like magic and I’m obsessed. It’s like it glues your split ends back together and you just can’t even see or feel them. Amazing! I would say this is a summer staple, especially if your hair starts to fray like straw in the heat!

aquatic inspired 3Lastly, why even have a summer if you can’t relax poolside with a magazine while painting your nails? This is something I so rarely get to do but I cherish every last second of it when I do have a chance. My beach read of choice this summer would be Real Simple magazine, and I am loving butter LONDON Thames. It might be the most beautiful blue-green shimmery nail polish I have ever laid my eyes on. Perfection!

What are your favorite summer/beach inspired products lately? I am turning to these to grasp every last possible day out of the summer that I can until it is finally over with!

I like lightweight products in the summer. It’s just too hot in my neck of the woods for a lot of heavy makeup, hair products or perfume, this time of year.

A sea of blue products! Love some of these. I chose my H20+ Spa gel for my shower yesterday, and it’s also a summery, pleasant scent. I love it!

How does the mist compare to other lines? I use urban decays but I ran out and I’m willing to try other brands.
