A Happy Announcement

So…I have a little something to tell you! I’m pregnant with baby #2. I’ve been putting off doing a post on this because I was in denial for a while but I really can’t put it off any longer! I want to tell everyone!

A little back story…Way back in December I thought I was pregnant for sure. I took a pregnancy test or two every week for WEEKS. I thought for sure I was pregnant. I ended up having 10 negative pregnancy tests, then one day it was positive. I know my body pretty well so I knew there was something up. I actually found out about being pregnant with my daughter when I was less than 2 weeks along. So anyways, by the time I found out I was pregnant “officially” this time around I was about 8 weeks along. That’s kind of where my denial has come from.

I thought just for funsies I would do one of those little baby surveys. Some mommy bloggers do these weekly, but I’ll probably just do the one this week. We’ll have to see!

How many weeks are you? I am about 14 weeks along! I just entered my second trimester.

When is your due date? September 11th, 2014. They actually called me the day after my first ultrasound and changed the date to the 12th, but I call BS. I think they did that because they didn’t want me to freak out about the date being bad luck.

Do you want a boy or a girl? I’m cool with whatever. We have all the gear for a girl though so undoubtedly that would be much cheaper!

Do you think it’s a boy or a girl? I feel exactly like I did the first go around with food aversion, and no real morning sickness. I’m super lucky in that way! My first pregnancy, I got twice- once was with the stomach flu and the second time was a few days into my second trimester, and that was just queasiness/morning sickness. This pregnancy, I have also been sick twice, and both this week. The first time I am convinced was morning sickness and then just last night I got food poisoning. All of my symptoms have pretty much lined up identically to the first pregnancy, so I’m going to say girl!

When do you find out if it’s a boy or a girl? Probably around week 20. They have a pretty good shot at being able to tell between weeks 15-20 but I don’t think they’ll let me peek until week 20.

What are your names? We don’t have any picked out yet. I am not one for unsolicited advice but if any of you mommies to be are out there reading, I highly recommend not sharing your choices of names before the birth. We didn’t last time and it was a great choice! When you share names with others they often think they should give you feedback on what they think of the name, and sometimes it’s negative. You don’t want to spoil what you think is a great name with someone else’s opinion!

How are you feeling? The first trimester was completely exhausting. I felt like a terrible mother because half the time I was watching Jocelyn during the day I would just pass out on the couch as she played around me. Every day when Mike got home from work I would be so tired I would go straight down for a nap immediately. Of course that messes with my sleep schedule at night a little bit, but I could just sleep all day if it was allowed! I am starting to gain a little of my energy back and really want to be active and walk outside. I told myself I would run a mile a day this pregnancy, and yeah, that hasn’t happened. I am really hopeful that when the sun comes out I will get some walking in outside and be a lot more active. I have had food aversions where I make a meal, and then by the time it’s ready I’m just not interested in it. I haven’t been sick except for twice which I think is super lucky. I have gotten a lot more hungry lately but the baby is also doubling his/her body weight weekly lately, so that’s probably why.

Does Jocelyn know? No, she’s only a year and a half. I’m pretty sure she has no idea what’s going on. I point to my belly and say baby and she will try to slap it, so that’s a start at least. Well, not the slapping, that part is no good. As I get bigger I’m curious to see what her reaction is.

Body changes different this time? This time around I feel big but not as quickly as I did last time. Last time we were doing a cross country move when I was pregnant so I was eating on the road a lot and stress eating a lot and I ballooned a bit faster from that. This time I’m staying at home, and have access to whatever food I want any time I want really so that has been pretty stellar. Aside from feeling tired I’m pretty good. I bought some maternity pants from The Gap because I practically lived in mine last pregnancy and wore them out. One pair fits like a glove already and the other two are a bit big so once I start gaining more they will fit better. I can still wear some of my pre pregnancy jeans and I have one old favorite with a broken button that I had cast away last summer but it’s perfect now with a belly band! I’m so glad to be able to wear them again for a couple weeks. It’s definitely not lost on me how lucky I am to get to stay home and raise my daughter and not have to show up at a professional job while pregnant. I feel spoiled even saying it but I don’t know how women who get sick a lot and are exhausted while they’re pregnant go to work. Hats off to you! I also get to save on a professional maternity wardrobe, which I’m sure is super expensive.

Any food cravings? I crave subs from Jimmy Johns and sometimes Subway. I recently heard Subway uses materials found in yoga mats as bread softeners, so that has made their subs a lot less appetizing to me. Knowing that there is yoga mat in my sub makes it taste gross to me. I try not to give into cravings too much but sometimes I just can’t help it! If I can make it to Trader Joe’s I try to get a sandwich there because they’re definitely healthier than you can find most places. I just tried their Mushroom Tortellini that you pop in the microwave and it makes a great lunch. I will definitely be shopping there more often for delicious healthy snacks. I’ve also been craving red wine, but I won’t be indulging in that for a long time.

What are you excited about? I’m excited for September to get here. I really want to see the reaction on Jocelyn’s face when she meets her new sibling, and I really think she’ll be the best big sister. She’s so loving and is always giving me hugs and kisses and loves to cuddle so I think she will be the absolute best big sister. I’m also excited to find out if it’s a girl or a boy. I didn’t want to find out for a while, but Mike really did, and it will be nice to prepare a little bit and buy more clothes if need be.

What are you least excited about? In September, we will have two kids two and under. It’s definitely a bit nerve wrecking to think about but I know I can do it! I also know what child birth feels like, so I’m not really looking forward to the pain. We have a lot of financial goals we really want to meet before welcoming another little life into the world, so that’s another thing on my mind every day. Without getting into too much detail, we have a lot on our plate right now and might be gearing up for more changes, so the stress is getting to me a little bit. I’m trying to take things one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once!

Welcome Baby G #2 to the blogosphere! I’ll keep you updated as I know more. I’m just happy to get it out there!
