I’ve been completely obsessed with natural, clean, organic, and less toxic fragrances over the last year or two. I’ve finally transitioned to almost never using fragrances with undesirable ingredients. It all started when my first daughter was born, and I would wonder if I should really be spraying all of that nonsense while I was nursing her. I didn’t completely give them up, but with every subsequent pregnancy, I would become more and more sensitive to fragrance, until I just couldn’t tolerate them anymore. They make me sneeze, and occasionally my skin will break out where I sprayed them. Enough is enough, right?!
The good news is that if you are the type of person who loves delicious, warm, luxurious scents that smell so good you could eat them, I have five amazing choices I’ve found over the past couple years. Keep reading to find out what my favorites are!
You’ve heard me rave about FarmHouse Fresh Goods. I love their spa products. They have great scrubs, lotions, and masks. Their scents are to die for. I recently discovered they have fragrances too! And they don’t disappoint. Rainbow Road and Fluffy Bunny are two of their scents that I am enamored with. Rainbow Road is a blend of coconut, bartlett pear and shea butter. To me, it smells like summer. It’s natural, organic, gluten-free, and phthalate free. Fluffy Bunny is a blend of mint julep, cream, and lavender. It smells similar to Fluffy Bunny to me, because it’s a gourmand scent. It’s rich and warm and delicious. This one is natural, gluten-free, and phthalate-free. The entire line is as natural/organic as they can be but ingredients vary from product to product. I use these all the time and I definitely appreciate that they are roller ball because they are easy to take along with me everywhere.
Another line I absolutely love is Tsi-La. First, I tried their L’Absolu Vanille and fell in love, so needed the Ilang Ilang scent next. L’Absolu Vanille is a mix of vanilla bourbon, sweet cocoa, Indonesian sandalwood, and tobacco. It’s a soft and sweet scent and I love the way it smells by itself or layered with other scents. Ilang Ilang is a blend of South Pacific florals, sugared sitrus fruits, and luscious Tahitian vanilla orchids. I love this one so much too. The scent is similar in scent because it’s warm and delicious, but each smells distinctly different. I love having a fragrance oil because I’m big on concentrated fragrance in small bottles. I like having just a small amount of perfumes, especially when the fragrances are high quality and natural, because they may not last as long as other fragrances filled with chemical stabilizers. This line of fragrance is handcrafted, animal cruelty-free, vegan, color and preservative free, multifunctional, alcohol-free, unisex, and natural.
Mahana is an amazing scent by the brand Leahlani. It is a delicious fragrance infused with vanilla beans and coconuts blended in a base of organic and cold pressed oil. It’s also phthalate and alcohol free. This scent reminds me of a tropical vacation. It is sunny and warm and just overall so delicious. You can pick this up at Great Beauty, a site that carries a lot of awesome green beauty brands.
Last but not least, Zents is one of my all time favorite green beauty fragrance brands. I’ve tried many of their scents in the past, but the one I am completely in love with at the moment is Sun. When I am craving a warm, beautiful, vanilla scent that has a lot of depth, I will often reach for this scent. This wears beautifully on its own, or layered with other scents. The notes are french vanilla, sweet blood orange, pink grapefruit, and a base of sandal and cedar. My absolute favorite way to wear this scent is as a perfume roll on. Layering this in different ways like as a shower gel, lotion, perfume, etc. will intensify the fragrance but I find that I get just enough when I use the fragrance oil. I am completely addicted to Zents scents. They are vegan, sulfate-free, gluten-free, and certified cruelty-free.
When searching for a cleaner option in fragrances, decide what is important to you. I am really into less toxic options, but if I find something else that smells amazing, I’ll spray it on my clothing instead of my skin. It’s a nice compromise. For the most part, these five scents keep me perfectly happy! I’ll often layer Zents sprays from their fragrance sampler on me too to find a nice combo if I feel like something different. They remind me of an indie version of Jo Malone!
Have you tried any of these scents? Do you go for green beauty or fragrances? I’d love to hear about any less toxic options out there that are your favorites in the comments!
