I am always in tune with new makeup launches, and some of my favorite brands have really been nailing it lately left and right with their new launches. Clinique has come out with several things recently that are noteworthy, and today I wanted to share three of them with you! I have the Sun-kissed Face Gelee Complexion Multitasker, Pep Start Eye Cream, and the Super City Block BB Cushion Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 50.
The most unusual of these products is the Face Gelee so I’ll start with that. I feel like these types of products are always a mystery on how to use them. Is it a self tanner? Is it a liquid bronzer? Do I mix it with my foundation or apply it after? This product comes in one shade, Universal Glow, that is meant to be mixed with foundation. In my experience, you can mix it with either a foundation or a tinted moisturizer, depending on your desired effect. When I’ve mixed it with my foundation, it does tend to sheer out the formula a little bit. If you mix this with a fuller coverage foundation, you may need a lot in order to get the desired effect. I would describe this as a sheer stain that leaves a subtle, sunkissed glow. It doesn’t deepen the shade of your foundation, but it warms it up a little bit. If you already have a medium to deep skin tone, I would skip this one because it probably won’t show up on you. The effect is really natural and I’ve really liked using it so far.
Next up is the Pep Start Eye Cream. I’ve been a longtime fan of the All About Eyes which is Clinique’s cult classic eye cream formula, so I was eager to try this one. It’s described as an instant brightening and hydrating eye cream that will help you look refreshed, wide awake, and ready for anything in three seconds. Because it’s supposed to brighten, I save this for morning use. After pulling the lid off, I pop the round ball cap out, and the eye cream can be squeezed out the small hole. It was a trick to figure that out at first, but it’s very simple to use once you know how to do it!
This eye cream does everything it says it will. It’s hydrating, smoothes my under eye area and makeup worn over top looks great. When first applied, a notice a slight cooling sensation, which is really refreshing and does act feel like an instant pick-me-up. It’s not too thick for daytime wear. I think it would have been neat to have a truly de-puffing tip, a metal one like the All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage would’ve been ideal. Save for that small detail, I’ve been really enjoying using this every day. I do like All About Eyes a little bit better, because old habits die hard and I’ve literally been using that formula for over 15 years.
The next thing item I wanted to mention is Clinique’s Super City Block BB Cushion Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 50. This product is new and I am really loving it. A couple months ago when I reviewed some of Pur’s new makeup (read my review) they really opened up Pandora’s box for me when it comes to cushion compact makeup and now I can’t stop/won’t stop. I am all about the cushion lately and when I can pry myself away from my new UD foundation (read review) I am wearing a cushion regularly these days.
I have this in Fair. What I love about it is the breathable, buildable medium-full coverage that feels like I’m wearing nothing, and looks like my skin but better. I love the SPF of 50 which is pretty rare to find in a foundation. I really like how it dries to a matte finish and lasts all day and doesn’t need to be set with anything to keep it looking fresh and fabulous.
The only thing I don’t love about it is the method of application. The puff applicator it comes with is not my favorite. It’s definitely doable to use, and I would use it in a tapping motion rather than a smearing motion if I went to use it. I prefer dabbing a damp Beauty Blender into the cushion’s sponge to apply it to my face. I question how much product I’m really getting though when the product is all suspended within a sponge. Because I’m already applying it to my face with a sponge most of the time, part of me wishes that this came in liquid form instead. Clinique does carry the Age Defense BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 which seems like it would be similar but that’s a sheer coverage formula with less SPF.
All in all, I really do like the BB cushion, I just hope it lasts a long time!Swatches of Pep Start Eye Cream, Sun-kissed Face Gelee Complexion Multitasker, and the Super City Block BB Cushion Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 50.
I’m using all of these products in the picture here. Admittedly it was kind of tough using the Face Gelee and the BB cushion together. I blended them together with my fingers separately before using my Beauty Blender to get everything to blend on my face.
Have you seen any of these in stores or online yet? Do you own them? What do you think?
