I always seem to be on the quest for perfect skin, and as a result I’m constantly trying new skincare and foundation. I have skin that’s more on the dry side, and I am concerned with anti-aging and the occasional acne flare up. I like my skin to look like it can breathe, and the older I get, the less I like the way super full coverage looks on me. I tend to touch up my redness with a good concealer, and I like the look of a light to medium coverage foundation on me that is buildable. I have an embarrassing amount of foundation already and just added several more formulas to my collection recently. It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a hoard of foundations with you, so I wanted to write a post detailing what I’m trying and loving right now!
Clinique Superbalanced Silk Makeup Broad Spectrum 15– I’ve tried a lot of foundations in Clinique’s range so when I found out they were coming out with a new one, I knew I had to get my hands on it. In high school, I used Clinique’s Superbalanced a lot (and that’s still for sale at Sephora, leading me to believe that they’re separate entities and the silk is not an updated version) and I loved the way it wore on my combo skin. The Superbalanced range has claims of controlling oil, yet hydrating where needed. I have definitely found that to be true of this foundation. I love the shade range this is offered in, in fact I am currently wearing the sixth shade in, Ivory. I typically am the lightest or second lightest! I typically apply this with my fingers and put a small amount on my forehead, each of my cheeks, my nose, and my chin. I then blend it in with my Beauty Blender in a bouncing motion. The coverage is buildable and I would describe it as medium. It tends to dry down to a matte finish on me, but it still looks really natural and like my real skin. I’m pretty obsessed with this! I’ve been using my favorite loose powder (read review) on my t-zone to set this and it’s been my jam for the past couple weeks. My only gripe would be that I don’t love the packaging. You have to pour it out into your hand and I would prefer it to come in a squeezable tube or in the glass container it comes in but with a pump.
Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation– This is a great foundation for someone who has great skin already- perfectly balanced and no breakouts- as it’s pretty sheer and lightweight. In other words, it’s a great fit for my skin right now in the summer and I’m hoping that since it’s sheer my color match (Shell at the moment) will be forgiving as my summer tan fades. As you may be able to tell by the words “candleglow” and “luminous” Laura Mercier has hopped on the bandwagon of coming out with a product that will give skin that glowy, radiant, soft look that are in so many foundations and highlighters right now. Because it’s sheer it doesn’t seem to go a long way, so I’ve been using several pumps to get it where I want it (more on the medium side) and I imagine my current bottle won’t last me very long at the pace of 3+ pumps per use. I love the dewy finish I get from this and it’s pretty hydrating too. This was a nice find for me and I’m excited to see how well it performs on my super-dry winter skin over the next few months.
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer– I tend to prefer a light-medium coverage on a daily basis, but I also like having something fuller coverage in the mix. I am a HUGE fan of It Cosmetics, and the extent of my dabbling into their liquid foundation has been the CC+ and the CC+ Illumination. I really wanted to try what they had up their sleeve for full coverage! I love the coverage of the other foundations from them, and I found this foundation to be practically identical, with just a little more pigmentation. I don’t find myself reaching for a concealer after using this because the coverage is so good. Their formula is infused with what they call “3D Skin Flex Technology” which they say allows the foundation particles to move along with the movement of your skin for the most natural and flawless coverage while delivering multiple skincare benefits. I love that my skin looks brighter when I wear this, it’s super soft, and the formula doesn’t settle into my fine lines. This one is a winner in my book for sure!
I’ve been checking out a lot of other skincare, concealer, and more lately but I just wanted to share three today. I am still a die hard fan of my Elizabeth Arden Prevage Anti-Aging Foundation (read review) but I suspect I won’t be able to wear that into the winter because 01 is relatively dark. I’ve been super curious about the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick but after watching Phyrra’s Anti-Haul video I realized how very little price per ounce I would be getting, so that might be a pass. I recently purchased another Bare Minerals Bareskin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer in light (I had medium for summer) and the Clinique All About Eyes Concealer (LOVE that stuff) and I’m planning to grab the Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Concealer. In case you can’t tell, I’m a concealer fanatic so I know these will all get used!
