After years of mostly covering what’s popular in beauty, I’ve taken a special interest recently in finding beauty products that nobody seems to be talking about! I’ve been branching out into “green” beauty as well and trying to revisit old brands I used to love that I’ve forgotten about. All of those things led me to try the Coola Rōsilliance Organic BB+ Cream SPF 30. I’ve been using Coola’s sunscreen for a couple years and I love the fresh scent and ingredients, and after checking out the brand more this summer discovered their setting spray, which I also love. Coola as a brand is all about organic suncare with broad spectrum UV protection. When I found out they had a BB cream of course I wanted to give it a whirl!
This is touted as being great for someone with dryness, uneven skintone, dullness, and uneven texture. It is described as being a skin-perfecting tinted moisturizer that provides a luminescent glow for fresh, healthy-looking skin. There are only two shades available in this formula- light/medium and medium/dark. Of course I am the lightest shade.
This is a really interesting BB cream and I have a love/hate relationship with it. It is extremely sheer, and it leaves my skin really hydrated on top of having SPF 30. I’ve noticed that in dim light it also has luminous qualities. Basically, the sheerness of the formula makes it perfect for someone who has really nice skin already and is looking for just a touch of makeup coverage. I just had a baby and my skin is anything but perfect. I am suffering from bizarre chin and cheek hormonal breakouts right now as my baby hormones leave my body so I don’t know if a sheer coverage really does it for me right now. However, in the way that I typically wear foundation, this actually works really well for me.
I noticed several months ago that I never liked the way my foundation looked on my face, that it was always caking and looking like I had way too much on. I realized that wearing full coverage makeup every day was not a flattering look on me. I was wearing full coverage mostly to mask my under eye circles and a few small breakouts so I ditched my full coverage formulas for every day and started using a sheer-medium buildable coverage foundation most days. Then I would follow up with a concealer under my eyes and around my nose for a bit more coverage and set the areas that needed it with a translucent or neutral powder. That way, everything gets just the right amount of coverage that it needs and I don’t look like I’m wearing a ton of makeup. I’m just wearing it where I need it!
You can see that it’s mostly sheer in the swatch above. In the picture below I am wearing very little makeup but I wore the Coola Rōsilliance along with my favorite concealer under my eyes and around my nose for redness and dark circles. I set my t-zone with my favorite neutral powder.
All in all, you’re not going to be perfectly on trend with the “baked makeup” looks you see on Instagram if you want to wear this, but if you’re looking for a sheer coverage makeup for no makeup-makeup it’s a really nice place to start. On days I find myself wanting a bit more coverage I am mixing this with a thicker, fuller coverage formula and finding that I really like the results.
Have you heard of this brand? Do you ever wear sheer coverage makeup?
