As my life just got exponentially busier in the past week, I am trying hard to find ways to streamline everything in my life. I am now the mom to a newborn baby girl, a two year old and a four year old! They are all going to be home with me this year and my husband was only able to take a couple days off from his job, so needless to say, the struggle has been real. I haven’t really been getting ready for the day most days and I’m just in survival mode at the moment. My first major obstacle I’ve faced this week was how to get ready for family pictures that would be taking place after my husband’s work day with nobody home to watch my kids like he normally would while I got myself ready!

I hemmed and hawed over my outfit, laid everything out for everyone else the night before, then as I was laying out my curling iron and some other beauty products, I decided to play with my hair and decided I would curl it the night before and sleep on it. If I had to freshen up the next morning, so be it! But considering it takes me a good 20 minutes to curl my hair when I’m by myself with no distractions, I was in panic mode thinking about how I would do it alone.

how-to-get-curls-to-stay-overnightI used my Sarah Potempa Beachwaver, which is my favorite beauty tool for messy curls. For a heat protectant I used TIGI S Factor Flat Iron Shine Spray which I am completely obsessed with for keeping my hair shiny and smooth while I am heat styling. Lastly, I used the Joico Hair Shake Liquid-To Powder Texturizer to set my hair. This is a really neat product that was new to me and I was totally experimenting, but it worked! When you shake it it morphs from a liquid to a powder and works to create volume, texture, and grip. I knew if I was going to sleep on my curls and wanted any prayer of them sticking around the next day, I was going to need some major texture help. I was surprised this didn’t weigh  my hair down at all and I just had to spray and tousle my hair to get the effect!

getting-curls-to-stay-overnightI definitely rocked second day curls with the help of Hair Shake and I’m so glad I tried it! I’m going to try third day hair and see if spraying a little more of this into my curly hairdo gives it even more life. I definitely recommend this if you are trying to get your curls to stay overnight and it worked out to be a huge timesaver and lifesaver for me!

Do you ever style your hair the night before?

I received the Hair Shake too, and I must admit that I’m mystified by it. Your hair looks great, but alas, I think I’ll be giving it away to someone who’s more creative hair wise than I.

You have beautiful hair!! I need to try that Hair Shake. So far the only product that helped me keep 2nd day curls is Living Proof Style Extender.

I will have to try this technique out, since I can’t wash my hair as often.

You look absolutely gorgeous! Even though I have naturally curly hair, I like to curl it with a large iron every so often but last time it was still very frizzy. I wish I could get my hair to look like yours!
