What brands are you drawn to recently?
Since turning 30 a couple months ago, I am more into brands with skincare benefits than ever. A lot of popular brands out there right now are creating products that look great on HD camera and have a ton of coverage but for my needs in every day life, I really don’t need that. If I’m paying money for a foundation, I want there to be some dermatology behind it. Give me build-able coverage, anti-aging ingredients that will improve my skin as I wear makeup throughout the day, and a natural looking finish.
What consumers seem to be attracted to lately is a heavily made up woman- full coverage, thick foundation, a very heavy highlight, lash extensions to the moon, and a liquid lip. I own and love many makeup items that will help me achieve that type of look, but lately I am inspired by simple products that I can wear without having to go through a 20 minute routine. Simply put, I’m about to have three kids four and under and I think my body and mind are preparing me for having literally no time to myself. I’m GLAD that I’m not craving a heavily made up look right now, and that I am aspiring for fast, easy, effective, and skin improving makeup.
A lot of brands have great ingredients that will improve my skin and help me stay low maintenance. I’ve been getting a ton of mileage out of It Cosmetics, Clinique, and Elizabeth Arden this summer, just to name a few. As Fall is right around the corner, I’m looking for new foundations to try out and the new one by Elizabeth Arden was on my list. I’ve really taken a liking to their new Prevage Anti-Aging Foundation Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30, which is pretty much a dream for someone looking for anti-aging makeup.
This foundation has pretty much everything I am looking for in a foundation- it’s for normal to dry skin, offers light to medium coverage, and has a naturally luminous finish. It is thin like a serum and I use about a pump and a half applied directly to my face with my fingers and then blend it with a Beauty Blender. I find that my skin does really well with a foundation with a dewy finish, especially since I am usually pretty dry. Full coverage foundation often cakes on me or makes me look older, but this really breathes and you can see my real skin through the formula. If you’ve never tried Prevage skincare, you really should, because this foundation is infused with it, and it makes my skin look smooth and firm, and feel impossibly soft!
If I could think of one gripe it’s that the shades seem to run a bit dark. I’m wearing Shade 2 in the picture below, which is pretty much perfect for me right now (although looks way too dark on my arm) but when my tan is faded and my skin hasn’t seen sun in months, I’m wondering if Shade 1 will be too dark.
I set my T-zone with Clinique Transparency Powder, which I felt was an important step in getting this foundation to last the day. It’s pretty long wearing on its own but over the span of several hours if I don’t set this with a powder it will start to fade around my nose.
I’m really enjoying this foundation formula a lot! I have some items from the Prevage line to share with you in the next couple weeks and I have some more foundation recommendations as well. If you get a chance to stop by your local Elizabeth Arden counter I would definitely try and get a color match and a sample of this. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
