Summer is here and we have been having so much fun at my house, going on so many adventures. We have a zoo pass, a museum pass (ours is on the lake!) and in general we’ve had a lot of gorgeous, sunny days. I’m loving soaking it all up. My morning routine has been super simple lately so I can focus on getting my family out of the house in the mornings, but I’ve been enjoying a lot of awesome new products I wanted to share with you. Some of these I’ve already mentioned recently or at some point, but I’m still loving them!
First of all, every day needs to start with SPF. My favorite summer look is fresh and dewy skin with fluttery lashes and a healthy glow. Making sure I start each day with sun protection will make sure my skin can stay looking young in the process. My current favorite for face is Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Super Fluid UV Mineral Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50+. I typically need more moisture than this offers so I’m using a moisturizer over top. After applying SPF I move on to foundation. I have a bunch I’m loving this summer but just replenished my It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream Illumination SPF 50+ in the Light shade. Even with a tan this shade suits me really well. It’s also going to be in this weekend’s QVC TSV if you’re interested in picking up the jumbo sized tube that I have pictured here!
For my bronzer I am absolutely obsessed with Sunshine in a Compact in Warmth. This is a gorgeous and flattering shade for my fair skin, and is able to help me pull off the sun-kissed look without any glitter or shimmer, which can really age me when it’s in bronzer. I adore this formula and there hasn’t been another bronzer in my rotation since I’ve had my hands on this one. If I’m not feeling the bronze and I want something that’s more of a blush/bronzer hybrid, I’ll spring for Jane Iredale Rose Dawn (read review) on my cheeks instead. I’ve also worn these two together, so it’s not like it has to be an either/or!
As you can see, I like to have my options. Some days I feel like a lighter and more natural highlighter, and I’ll reach for Hefty Highlight (read review) and other days I’ll feel like going all in and getting a stronger highlight so I’ll reach for my Cover FX Custom Enhancer drops in Celestial (read review). If I’m feeling a matte lip I’ll reach for one of Tarte’s Matte Lippie Lingerie shades (read review) and if I’m feeling something a little more glossy, I’ll reach for a similar neutral that I love in a slicker formula. Heaping Hazelnut is a long time favorite. In fact, I have been using this for years and when I was looking for my tube the other day I ran across three tubes in my stash. There was a time in my life that this was the only thing I would wear and I couldn’t be without it!
When I’m on the go in the summer, eyeshadow isn’t always an essential for me. I definitely go without a lot of the time! It’s typical that I would wear a Make Up For Ever Cream Shadow like #13 or nothing at all. If I go out I always put some on, but on an every day basis in the summer, it’s not always something I reach for. Instead, I’ll go for super luscious, fluttery lashes that I can achieve with something like It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara (read review). I will then groom my eyebrows with Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium and clean up any makeup mistakes with a quick dab of concealer under the eyes with bare Minerals Complete Coverage Serum Concealer in Medium (read review).
Last but not least, I like to smell nice so I’ll use a spritz of perfume. Yesterday, I wrote about my favorite natural perfumes, but I mentioned that I still kept a few in my rotation that didn’t fall into that category. What’s probably my all time favorite non-natural perfume is the Verbena Eau de Toilette from L’Occitane. This is such a great fragrance and so refreshing for summer. With each of my three pregnancies, I’ve craved some crazy stuff but one thing that has been consistent through all three has been my addiction to anything lemon scented. The Verbena perfume has lemon notes but it’s a soft and delicate and fresh, and not super bitter like you might expect. This scent has carried me through all of my pregnancies, and it’s something I really look forward to applying. It is such a classic L’Occitane fragrance too, and they are one of my favorite brands.
These are my staples in the summer time in my makeup bag! I usually keep all of these items in a bag on my kitchen counter and I will put on makeup while my girls are eating breakfast in the morning. I have enough of a mix of items here that I am set for any occasion during the day.
Do you have any summer beauty must haves? I’d love to hear about them!
