Despite my best intentions to write up a “best of 2015” post, the month of January has gotten away from me. I am switching gears and filling you in on my beauty purchases this month instead. These are a conglomeration of things I discovered at the very beginning of this year, either finding them in stores, or by hearing what other people loved in 2015 that I had to grab for myself.

January beauty buys from Too Faced, Urban Decay, Tarte, MAC, Young LIving, and Bite BeautyI usually buy a fair amount of makeup, but this haul was a lot even for me! I grabbed a lot of things from just about every category that I want to share with you today.

Too Faced Born This Way foundation is one that I’ve been wanting to try for a while. It’s not new, but it’s new to me. So far, I really like it. I am wearing the lightest shade, Ivory. It seems to agree with my dry skin and works well with my favorite setting powderUrban Decay Naked Skin Concealer is another item I’ve been wanting to pick up for a while. I am attracted to the full coverage and the texture of this concealer. It’s very opaque and it’s perfect for covering redness around my nose and dark circles under my eyes. I didn’t need another concealer but I’ve been lusting after this one for a hot minute so I’m glad I finally picked it up.

I don’t often buy MAC collections, because they come out with new items SO OFTEN it makes my head spin. I can’t keep up with the hype and I hate that their collections are so brief that if I don’t buy something the same day I hear about it that it will be gone. I saw some reviews on their new blush in Cheek Pollen, a warm nude satin, and I knew I had to have the color. To me it reads as a warm, peachy nude brown that looks great on fair skin and I think it will still work well with a tan. It looks like it’s still in stock so get it while you still can. I bought mine from Nordstrom because they offer free shipping with no minimum purchase.

January beauty buys from Too Faced, Urban Decay, Tarte, MAC, Young LIving, and Bite BeautyI belong to the Essential Rewards program with Young Living, because I really like to earn points towards future purchases. I have to spend a certain dollar amount to stay enrolled, but it’s not difficult for me to do because I use these oils all the time now. This month I purchased Valor, Joy, and Peppermint. Valor is a blend of Black Spruce, Blue Tansy, Rosewood, and Frankincense. It can be applied topically or diffused. We diffuse this every night and I don’t think I could even sleep without it anymore. Joy is approved for topical use but I have been putting it in my diffuser too. It’s a blend of Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Lemon, Coriander, Tangerine, Jasmine, Roman Chamomile, Palmarosa, and Rose oils. A small bottle of this comes in the starter kit when you sign up. A friend of mine swears by this and she had me wanting another bottle after the way she was talking about it so I decided to pick up another. I just ran out of Peppermint the other day so I knew I had to replace the bottle. I use this all the time in our diffuser and I love how refreshing it can be on my sore neck and back after a long day.

I’m working towards using less chemicals on a day to day basis so I have been slowly weeding out things that are probably not that healthy for me. I’ve grown more sensitive to smells over time and haven’t burned a candle more than a couple times in the last five years. I’ve also become a lot more sensitive to perfumes and body products, so I ended up throwing away a LOT of things. We’re talking brand new candles from Bath & Body Works (they give me a headache), lots of body lotion, and tons of perfume. I have used the same few natural/lighter smelling perfumes religiously for the past year and I don’t know if I’ll ever go back to mainstream perfumes and all of their chemicals. I wasn’t even trying to weed out chemicals from my life, it just kind of happened that diffusing essential oils replaced my love for home fragrance and now I’m finding lots of uses for them. I’m working on a post on this where I’ll go further in depth, but let me know if you have any questions in the comments!

January beauty buys from Too Faced, Urban Decay, Tarte, MAC, Young LIving, and Bite BeautyI went a little crazy on the lip products this month, purchasing three! I had reviewed the Tarte Lip Paints and was really enjoying the slicker texture that they have for a matte lip product.  I started out with NamasteSo Fetch, and Adorbs, so I had a neutral, a bright, and a super bright shade. I opted to get a couple shades in the mauve/nude family that has been so popular so I picked up TBT and Fomo. I really like them both and they’ve been getting a ton of wear. With a typical matte lipstick you would need to be wearing a crapload of lip balm in your off time to get your lips ready to get dried out big time. I’ve noticed that my lips need a little bit of TLC when I wear these, but not nearly to that extent.

I also picked up Bite Beauty lip pencil in Rosehip. I can’t find a description of the color anywhere, but it seems to be a bright red/pink shade. I really love it and it has completed my collection of the Bite Beauty Matte Créme Lip Crayons for their spring collection. I’m completely obsessed with this collection and own just about every shade. If I had to choose a favorite lip product, this would be it. I chose Rosehip to round out my collection, but I also wanted to wear it to family pictures that we had taken for Valentine’s Day. My holiday cards from Shutterfly never got to me, so I ditched them and I’m sending out Valentines instead from Minted this year. I think I may post them when they arrive just for fun, so keep your eyes out. I’m really excited to work with them!

January beauty buys from Too Faced, Urban Decay, Tarte, MAC, Young LIving, and Bite BeautyLastly, I thought I bought the cream deodorant in a jar from Meow Meow Tweet but it hasn’t come to my house yet. This was a beauty buy I was super excited about, but I must have imagined buying it because I don’t see an email receipt and I would’ve ordered it over a week ago but don’t have it yet. I have been wanting to switch to natural deodorants for a while, but I go to the gym to work out and I sweat so I don’t want to be stinky! I have tried a few brands that worked terribly on me so I really wanted to give this a whirl. Look out for it next month in this type of post because I think I’m going to buy it!

Did you buy anything fun this month? Fill me in!

Very interesting post! I’m really curious about the oils and diffuser that you mentioned. I have trouble sleeping and I’m wondering if diffused oils would do anything to help me sleep. I’m just wondering if the oil accumulates and would stain my antique night stands!

Hi Allison! Feel free to send me an email if you want to know more. I’m not sure about the staining- we have some wood night stains in our room and they haven’t absorbed any of the oils.

That’s good to know. Since I would expect that it’s air borne oil, it has to settle somewhere lol. I’ll check out the website!

I use a diffuser about every day in my home office, and haven’t noticed any stickiness or oil collecting anywhere, but maybe I should do some cleaning! lol.

I absolutely relate to you and artificial scents. I haven’t used a candle in my house for years and keep away from fragrance. My migraines would be set off with these products. I haven’t gotten into the oils though because I wasn’t sure if I could tolerate those.

I was pretty surprised I could tolerate them. The real surprise was when after using them for a while I couldn’t tolerate my perfumes or my candles anymore!

I’d love to read about your aromatherapy journey. I am addicted to my diffuser, and use it just about every day that I’m in my home office. I like picking different scents to go with my mood.

What kind of diffuser do you use? I have the Young Living one but I’m pretty intrigued by the ones on Amazon that light up.

I love Born This Way. I haven’t been a fan of candles or diffusers either but lately I find myself liking sniff boxes, pot pourris and aromatherapy pouches.

I use oils to make products for my hair and skin. I sometimes burn them too. It’s a great alternative to candles as you mentioned. This month I haven’t bought anything interesting.

Very nice choices. I would love to try that foundation, everyone who does raves on and on about it but it’s in my No Fly Zone. #sadpanda I can never get enough BITE lip pencils! They are just the best.
