new year's maintenance

The new year is upon us, and naturally I am reflecting upon what life was like in 2015. December can be sort of a depressing month. Despite the joys of the holidays, the year is drawing to a close and you are left to decide whether you made the best of your circumstances or if you still have unmet goals from the year. My family did pretty well in 2015- we worked towards paying off debt, my husband will have earned his Bachelor’s after years of going to school part time while working full time, I worked hard at photography and other business related stuff, and my kids grew A LOT. Another year in the books, folks.

One thing that I really focused on in 2015 was getting back into shape. I had just had a baby three months before the new year and was not feeling very good about myself. In March, I bit the bullet and got a personal trainer. She hooked me up with some exercises and told me about other fitness classes offered at our gym and for the first time in my LIFE, I am in a fitness routine. In the past, I would go and work out for a few weeks and then fall off the wagon again for a few months. I have been exercising on a schedule for at least nine months now and although I could always afford to lose some jiggle, I’m feeling a lot better about my health in general. That said, weight loss is not a resolution of mine this year- just maintaining healthy habits and getting other aspects of my life “in shape.” I feel like our family motto this year should be “keep on keeping on.”

In honor of the approaching new year, I wanted to give you the rundown on some of the goals I have for myself and my family:

1) Slow down. We traveled so much in 2015 and I want to stick around the house more in 2016. We own a house now and I would love to spend some of our hard earned cash decorating our space.

money2) Get out of debt- completely. We have been hammering away at this goal for years but I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Finally! I have a lot of individual goals that will work towards completing this goal but I am hopeful that this time next year our bank account will reflect our hard work this year.

I learned in the last few weeks of the year how much it helps me to keep a paper planner. I love the ones you can add note paper to and jazzing up your week with stickers can also make it fun to use. I’m kind of obsessed. A goal without a plan is just a dream, and writing things down on paper keeps me accountable.

4) Maintain my gym routine. I’ve been so consistent with the gym and that makes me so proud of myself. I’d like to see myself doing more of the same in 2016.

5) Don’t drive through for coffee or lunches. This is my #1 weakness and my husband does it too. We end up not having enough leftovers for Mike to pack a lunch so he’ll hit up the expensive cafeteria at work and I’ll hit up a drive through. I don’t even like take out that much but it’s so easy. I was in Target the other day and had a complete DUH moment when I ran across the new Lean Cuisines. These used to be a staple for me when I was in the working world and when I started staying home with kids I kind of forgot about how amazing it is to keep a frozen lunch around.

I was so excited to see that they now come with a ton of options for everybody- gluten-free options, protein packed options, and options made with organic ingredients. Lean Cuisine definitely seemed to bump it up a notch recently because my mouth is watering looking at each of the amazing options. I’m not going to lie, as soon as I saw these I had to choose 10 to put in my cart. Target has an amazing deal where you can get these for $2 each and there will be a $1 off 5 coupon starting 1/3 so it is a great time to stock up.

I am trying to remember from my working days what my favorite Lean Cuisine was, but I am currently really enjoying the LEAN CUISINE® MARKETPLACE Comfort Chicken in Sweet BBQ SauceI had it for lunch today and it was so satisfying. When the girls are driving me nuts and we have nothing in the house to eat, this is the perfect thing to feed my food mood. I bought a bunch of flavors for Mike to take to work too because it’s more affordable than what they offer in the cafeteria. What a great find, right?!

Do you have any goals for the new year? I definitely feel like we were already on track this year but I’m always glad to think of a couple things to keep us in maintenance mode. Have you been to Target lately for any of the post-holiday sales? I am so glad I stopped in and found the Lean Cuisines

It sounds like 2015 was a great year for you all and that you have great plans for 2016, too! Congrats to your hubby for getting his bachelors–mine is doing the same thing right now and I know how hard it is! I hope you’re able to meet your keep on keeping on goals of the year, but it sounds like you’re off to a great start! Oh! And I looove the new Lean Cuisine options, I hadn’t tried them in years, either, but picked up a bunch and had LEAN CUISINE® MARKETPLACE Comfort Chicken in Sweet BBQ Sauce for lunch yesterday and it was delicious!
