When I heard of the collaboration between Urban Decay and Gwen Stefani, I didn’t immediately know whether or not I wanted the palette. For some reason I thought it was going to be all brights and bolds and I’m not drawn to wearing those shades at the moment. Once I saw the palette online though, I knew I needed it. All neutrals and just a few bold pops of color. Yes, please! Now that I’m thinking about it, Gwen Stefani’s bright makeup shades are pretty much limited to her lip color. I haven’t seen the lipsticks that go along with this collection yet but I’m willing to bet there is a bright red in there!

First, let’s talk about the way the palette looks. It’s pretty hefty and there a whopping 15 shades inside. I love the black and white and gold together. It looks really classic and also a little funky to me. Adore.

ud x gwen palettePeeking inside, I am seeing lots of good stuff in here for us neutral lovers. Anaheim and Zone are two perfect crease shades for me. I often mix them together. I also have loved wearing Punk, Serious, and Blackout in the outer V for a deeper blending shade for my crease. Blonde, Bathwater, and Skimp are good highlight shades. Baby, Pop, Steady…all varying shades of a nude champagne for us fair skinned ladies. Harajuku is a really pretty pink that adds a nice wash of color for something more interesting. Danger is a shimmery deep royal blue that looks great blended out- shimmery and kind of smoky and deep. 1987 is a nice gold shade that is really interesting. There are so many pretty shades in this palette. I shouldn’t have been so surprised by how much I liked it because Gwen Stefani wears mostly neutral eyeshadow and is very fair like I am, so of course we are drawn to a lot of the same shades. Punk is a gorgeous deep matte burgundy that reminds me a lot of a single shadow from Aveda that I’m in love with that I keep carting around to pair with other neutrals. I’m glad they included this in the palette because it’s a shade I am drawn to.

gwen4Here are a couple of pictures I took with my external flash on my camera near the window in my bathroom. The lighting in there is actually pretty good but I just callibrated my computer and everything on my screen looks differently than it usually does, so it’s throwing me off. Is everything coming off green/blue for you or do I look normal? I’m curious so sound off in the comments if it’s weird to you. I’m hoping to sign up for a photography class this winter but I need to make sure that my computer screen is callibrated first, but getting used to the difference in color is going to be a learning curve for me!

ud x gwen eyeshadowudxgwen eyeshadow 2I love that there are so many mattes in this palette. I’m getting some mileage out of Harajuku and Punk in this picture alongside some of the other neutrals. In this picture, I’m also wearing Shiseido Future Solution LX Total Radiance Foundation. I reviewed this over a year ago and I get quite a few searches for it to my blog, probably to see if it’s worth the high price tag! I still love it for flawless looking full coverage and although mine was sent to me, I would purchase it when I run out. I am planning to do a foundation post soon outlining what I like to use for varying degrees of coverage. I have been reaching for this one a lot lately and thought I’d mention it!

Are you going to pick up the Gwen Stefani palette? What do you think of it?

I don’t think the color looks off at all. I like the packaging but so far this hasn’t excited me as a lot of the neutrals look the same to me. I do love the look you got though. I will have to check this out in person before ai decide!

I bought this as soon as it launched. I’m really fair-skinned and this was just the perfect neutral palette. The pops of color are great too, especially Punk, Danger and 1987.
