I haven’t shared a lot of “makeup looks” on my blog because to be honest, I find them sort of boring! From me, anyway. I usually do the same two or three things every day repeated with the same techniques and different products. But really, all of my makeup routines fall within three categories: 1) Dressed to the nines 2) Every day makeup or 3) No makeup makeup. If I’m not going out on a date with my husband, and if I don’t feel like wearing a full face of makeup, then I will sometimes wear a no makeup makeup look.
If you aren’t sure what that means, it’s supposed to give the illusion of great skin and a healthy and glowing complexion that is achieved naturally. But obviously it’s not! LOL In short, I’m wearing makeup, but it’s applied naturally and most guys would never notice that you’re wearing anything. I will share with you what I’m wearing below!

It actually takes a shocking amount of products to achieve a no makeup makeup look. One would think that it required little to no effort but I usually only wear my makeup like this when my skin is already looking pretty good to start out. A good foundation, concealer, brightening products, and a highlighter are all must haves for something like this. Wouldn’t you know that I’m all about the highlighters and brighteners, so this look is right up my alley.
The first thing I apply after my skincare is a BB Cream. I have been on a foundation kick again and so many have come out recently that I really want to try. Clinique’s Acne Solutions BB Cream is online exclusive, as far as I can tell, and I discovered it when I was reading this blog. I was immediately intrigued as I tend to love Clinique foundations but they are underrated. I never read about them on the internet and they don’t get buzzed about as much as other brands.
This is a really awesome BB cream but I hesitate to call it that! The formula is watery and thin and doesn’t have the moisturizing qualities I have come to expect from a BB formula. It is super lightweight, has an SPF of 40 and gives moderate to full buildable coverage. I am trying to get as much wear as I can out of the Light/Medium shade that I have before it’s too dark on me. The coverage on my skin is just about perfect. I feel like it looks very natural and unlike many acne fighting products is not at all drying. It is long wearing, but at the 8 hour mark it definitely requires a touch up. I haven’t had any breakouts from wearing this (and I better not, it’s Acne Solutions!) and I am considering buying the lightest shade, Light, for winter. I apply this with a Beauty Blender and it does the trick, but the formula is so watery I would suggest applying to your face first and then bouncing the sponge on your face.
My next step is the Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Soufflé. I feel like I talk about these constantly. They are really something special! I own three of them and have wanted to buy more but you can only use so many products at a time and stocking up on cream stuff is iffy. The blushes I’ve had for a year are starting to show signs of dryness but my Raspberry/Opal is still going strong. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a blush as beautiful as these apply outside of the Hourglass range. They are so luminous and not at all glittery, just a glowing and lit from within sheen that I fall in love with every time I wear these.
My all time favorite liquid illuminator is the Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer by Josie Maran. They recently repackaged them and then shortly thereafter I see they now carry the Argan Enlightenment Illuminizing Wand. Holla! This is definitely holy grail status for me. I love the blendability that comes with a wand. It’s so easy to “strobe” and get it on the brows, cheekbones, cupid’s bow, etc. with the control of a stick. The argan oil and shea butter are exactly what my dry skin needs. This stuff blends beautifully even on top of powders, it’s just the perfect formula. It’s not at all glittery, but definitely gives a glow/sheen that is amazing. The shade is kind of a champagne that reminds me a bit of Watt’s Up. Seriously, so insanely pretty, you need it!
No makeup makeup on the eyes is all about brightening and concealing and NO darkly rimmed eyes. I first neutralize my eye lid with Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden and then apply the Tarte EmphasEYES Inner Rim Brightener to my waterline. Honestly, it doesn’t last all day, but I can get 5-6 hours of wear out of this. I have yet to find a liner for my waterline that lasts the entire day. I’ve been really obsessed with the It Cosmetics Eyeshadow Trio in Pretty Nudes. These shades look rather blah when you are just staring at them in the pan but they are the perfect sheer and nude wash of color over your lids. I’m wearing the bottom triangle from the picture, the taupe shade in the pictures for this post. I should’ve swatched them for you but I didn’t think of it. I have been getting a TON of use out of these shades. The pearly pink and the champagne beige are also perfection.
For the rest of my eye look, I keep it pretty simple. Brows are a step I never EVER skip and I’ve been using my Brow Zings in Medium again. The brush that comes in the pan is pretty worthless but I take any old angled stiff brush and dip it into the wax and then the powder and comb it through my brows. I like to take a spoolie through them afterwards to disperse the color a bit. If I am not wearing eyeliner, I like to take my It Cosmetics Tight Line Full Lash Length Black Mascara Primer to get to the root of my lashes before applying mascara. Then I apply one of my favorite mascaras. My current favorite is the It Cosmetics Hello Lashes Extensions Mascara. Even when going for a no makeup makeup look, I always want a dramatic lash!
Are you catching a theme here? It Cosmetics does no makeup makeup really well. The line was developed with plastic surgeons and dermatologists so obviously they know how to make the skin look its absolute best. I’ll tell you another favorite of mine for brightening up my under eye area. This stuff is the absolute best! It Cosmetics Eyelift in a Tube in Fair is where it’s at for a lit from within glow. There is no shimmer or glitter to destract from circles, it’s just light and lift. It’s a really hydrating formula and definitely stands up to the name of “eyelift in a tube.” I first apply the brightening end to my under eye area and down the sides of my nose and a little on my forehead, and then after blending it in go back in with the concealer end on those areas. The brush I use for the concealer is the It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe No-Tug Dual Eyeshadow #5 brush. I often use it to blend my concealer under my eyes and then use it to apply eyeshadow to the lids. The short, stiff end is perfect for blending color underneath the eye as well!
The lip pencils I have been using non stop are the Burt’s Bees Lip Crayons. I wrote about them in my 5 Favorite Lip Crayons post. Hawaiian Smolder is where it’s at for me lately. It’s the perfect pop of a deep pink/coral and it’s awesome for a no makeup look. When I am going minimal on color everywhere on my face I start to crave just a slight bit of color on my lips. These are inexpensive, feel great on my lips, and last a few hours before fading. LOVE!
Lastly, I wanted to share with you what I use to set everything, the Josie Maran Nirvana Hydrating Treatment Mist. This is in a glass bottle and is rather large so it’s not something that’s portable but it looks so gorgeous on my bathroom counter. I tend to use it to go for a quick hydration boost and fresh-er-upper every time I use the restroom during the day. There’s argan oil for nourishing and softening the skin and coconut water for hydration and electrolytes. There’s no alcohol in the formula so it’s not drying- it’s all hydration baby! The way this comes out is definitely more of a mist than a spray or stream. Other makeup setting sprays have made my face wet upon application, but I can barely feel this spraying out. It’s really good stuff!
No makeup makeup can take even longer to achieve than any other makeup look but I like to think I’ve got this look on lockdown. I wear it pretty frequently! It’s easy, cute, and it’s definitely possible to wear this during the day and go in later to add more drama to your eyes before a date night.
Do you wear no makeup makeup a lot? I’d love to know what products you turn to. Let me know in the comments section!
