With the growing popularity of “strobing,” which is essentially the same thing as highlighting, I am hoping people don’t forget about contouring! I have always enjoyed a good contour, maybe not to the degree that the Kardashians use it, but I would be sad to see it go out of style.

Tarte’s The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer is a contouring and sculpting stick that creates the illusion of high, chiseled cheekbones. It is ideal for slimming the neck, jawline and nose. I have a couple of these and I’ve enjoyed using them on the sides of my nose and under my lips blended in to create some dimension.
Smashbox Step-by-Step Contour Stick Trio is a set of three ultra-blendable creamy sticks that help highlight, bronze, and contour. The set has a how to guide and they are super easy to use.

As you can see by the swatches above, they all look really creamy and none of them have shimmer. They all help to create believable dimension.
Although the sticks are fun to use, I think powder is my favorite way to contour. Becca’s Lowlight/highlight Perfecting Palette Pressed is awesome, and not only do you get a great contour shade, but you’re also getting one of my all time favorite highlighters in the shade Opal. When I wear this I usually use my Becca The One brush to work the shade in under my cheekbones like I am doing in the picture at the top of this post!
I have done minor contouring for years but first started thinking about doing it on a daily basis after following Maskcara‘s blog. She does a beautiful job with contouring and even has her own product line for it. Maybe that will be what I check out next!
Do you highlight or contour? What do you use?
