It’s been a few months since I shared my summer goal list with you, and I thought I’d give an update on one of the points. I had mentioned that I was going to be using the Tria Hair Removal Laser 4x to remove some of my unwanted body hair in an effort to streamline my beauty routine. I have been using this for a couple months and I am seeing some slow results over time (exciting!), so I thought I would walk you through the process!

This laser is the only FDA-cleared laser available for home use. When some people hear the words “at home laser” they get a little cringey but trust me, this is totally legitimate! It’s super easy to use. The technology used for the at home laser is the same used by professionals for in-office laser hair removal. You will be getting permanent results from both! Of course, unless you are going through Groupon to some sketchy back alley place, laser hair removal in a doctor’s office is going to run you FAR more than the $449 price tag on the Tria.

tria at home laserDepending on the place on your body you are lasering, results and treatment times may vary. My armpit doesn’t take as long to laser as my .lower leg. My legs get pretty hairy if they’re left unkempt so I’m focusing most of my efforts there. My leg hair grows in super dark and I usually shave every single time I shower so it barely has time to grow in. For the sake of experimentation, I’ve been going without shaving for a few days at a time. I mostly just want to know how effective the lasering has been! I can tell I’m getting some results because my leg hair is growing in really patchy.

at home laser hair removalTria says that places that are large like your upper leg can take 25-30 minutes. It’s not taking me nearly that long to finish a leg. I’m also really impatient so I’m probably breezing through lasering sessions. Clinical studies of this device have shown up to a 70% reduction after just two treatments. I haven’t noticed that dramatic of a result but my leg hair is definitely coming in patchy despite moving quickly. I will be focusing on getting closer to that half hour mark in my next few lasering sessions to see if we can go from patchy to bare this round!

leg hairOk, this is so gross but I decided, why not show you a leg hair selfie (lelfie?) to show you how patchy my legs are from this. This is an iPhone picture I took at the gym and yes, there’s a shadow from my phone cast over my leg, but when I was working out earlier, I thought about taking a picture and I wanted to make it quick. Can you imagine what someone would think if they saw me taking a picture of my leg hair at the gym? LOL Anyway, you can see there are lots of parts where there is no hair at all, and then other parts where I still have some work to do.

I love this laser so far! Obviously there are trends in hair and people who tweezed their eyebrows into tiny lines in the 90s are regretting it now. But I don’t think that full on bushy leg hair will ever be a bandwagon I want to jump on. I feel more comfortable when I am body hair-free. For that reason I am so excited at the prospect of not having to shave in the shower anymore. I’m sure I’ll save a ton of time when I get to skip that step in the future!

tria laser 4x hair removalI also wanted to mention that the pain is tolerable. It does sting a little bit, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. There are 5 settings and I normally keep it around 3. The first couple zings have me holding my breath in anticipation, but it’s not too bad. It feels like a little rubber band snapping against my skin. I could see myself moving up to 4 for the next session. Once I know what to expect, it’s really not that bad!

I hope to have another lelfie for you all at the end of summer, except for next time it’ll be hairless legs!

What do you think of at home lasering? Is it something you would do?
