Even on my minimalist makeup days, there are certain things I have to wear if I want my makeup to look decent. Foundation, a touch of blush, brow gel, mascara, and…my absolute beauty essential would be makeup primer. It has the power to make or break my face makeup for the day. If I forget it, especially in the summer, my makeup is sure to start wearing off by mid day. If I remember to wear it, my makeup lasts longer, pores seem smaller, skin seems smoother, I use less foundation overall, and if I’m lucky my primer has other skincare benefits too. I didn’t start wearing primer besides on my eyelids until a couple years ago, but let me tell you, I’ll never go back!

I reviewed a TON of primers a couple years ago (you can read that post HERE) but of course the obsession never quits, and I am always looking for something new. I think if you are new to primers, a great place to start would be the Pur Correcting Primer line. Why? Because simply deciding you need a makeup primer is only the first step. What benefits do you want? Knowing your skin type is the first step to finding a great primer that will work for you. Pur Minerals offers four primer shades for varying skin types: green for redness and irritation, peach for dark spots, lavender for oily and breakout-prone skin, and neutral for enlarged pores and imperfections. These primers not only conceal the problem but they contain targeted skincare ingredients that will also treat the issue.

My biggest skincare concerns are anti-aging and hydration. I also break out from time to time, so my obvious choice from the line was the Hydrate & Balance with Lavender. It’s oil-free, silicone-free, paraben-free, and gluten-free. The texture is not that silicone slip feel that I get from a lot of hydrating primers- this one is hydrating yet also mattifying. It has the salicylic acid that will stop acne, and something called Pentavitin, which provides up to 72 hours of deep hydration. When worn before foundation, it made a big difference in the texture of my skin.

pur correcting primersPur Minerals has several other formulas that target other skincare needs- pick and choose based upon what your skin is like:

Illuminate & Glow: add a dose of brilliance and hydration to dull, tired, and stressed-looking skin!

Color Balancer- Peach: neutralize the look of dark circles, age spots, freckles and uneven skin tone with color-perfecting ingredients.

Redness Reducer- Green: reduce the appearance of pores and create a flawless, uniform skin tone.

Prep & Perfect- Neutral: reduce the appearance of pores and create a flawless, uniform skin tone.

YES, primer!!! I used to be so bad about that. Now I HAVE to even if I’m only applying concealer and blush!

I definitely find primer helps keep my make stay all day. I don’t always use it though. If I am just wearing a bb cream or a tinted moisturizer I may skip it. I don’t have a favorite at the moment.

Primer is as important to me as under eye cream. It keeps my face on.

Primer is not crucial to my makeup routine, but I do use it occasionally and enjoy one that’s not velvety to the touch.

I love that brands are starting to come out with a variety of primers for different skin concerns instead of just one option now! I only use primer when I wear foundation, which is probably once or twice every couple of weeks- but when I DO use it, it’s definitely makes a big difference!

With my oily skin, primer is a must! It’s great that brands are starting to understand that there are so many different types of needs out there for skin.

Primer is not a big part in my makeup routine, but I also don’t use foundation or concealer so I think that is why. Definitely a cool selection of goodies though.
