Lip crayons are one of my favorite ways to wear makeup. I have been freaking obsessed with the offerings of several brands, but I wanted to share with you my five favorite lip crayon formulas today, and my favorite color from each brand! I own LOTS of these, like…the entire line that Bite and butterLONDON sells and, almost all the Tarte and Clinique ones. It’s a little out of hand! So my five favorites overall today should be good right?

I’ll start with Clinique since they sold me my first ever lip crayon which ignited this obsession. They now have three formulas of lip crayons out. The original was the Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm, then they came out with their Intense line, then the Baby Tint line. The original formula comes across as a sheer shade that you can apply without a mirror, but they still have a decent amount of pigmentation that you can see. The Intense line shows up more like a lipstick, and the Baby Tint line is more or less completely sheer and don’t show up on me at all. My favorite shade of all three lines is Whole Lotta Honey. It’s the perfect neutral that matches everything and I have yet to find another shade I like as much. These balms are amazing, loaded with mango and shea butters and they’re unscented.
The second formula I fell in love with is the Tarte LipSurgence line. They have several variations on the formula (matte, créme, etc) but a recent favorite is the LipSurgence Lip Créme. I just wrote about them HERE and they’re all swatched so check them out! When I got these, the shade Empowered ended up getting the most love surprisingly, it didn’t speak to me when I saw the packaging but it was love at first application! It’s the perfect no effort soft pink that ends up going with every makeup look and outfit. The ingredients here are fabulous, as with all stuff from Tarte they are all about the oils! This has maracuja, jojoba seed oil, shea butter and vitamin E. The biggest different between Tarte’s line of LipSurgence and Clinique’s is that the Tarte ones have a bit of a minty tingle.
If we are going in order of discovery, I can’t leave out Bite. Seriously, color me obsessed with this line. I discovered it in Seattle at the Sephora there, back when not all Sephora stores carried Bite. The brand became a fast favorite for me from the food grade formula to the absolutely gorgeous shades they carry. Some of the most striking shades I’ve seen that I can’t dupe come from this line. I reviewed their Matte Créme Lip Crayons a while ago (review HERE) and they are still in heavy rotation in my makeup bag. My favorite from the collection is Sucre. It’s the most gorgeous warm pink shade that is the perfect pop of color but not TOO loud for me for every day. Of all the lip products I own I will definitely end up repurchasing this one, I wear it so much!
Next is by Burt’s Bees! I’ve been a longtime fan of their lip balms and the few colors of their lippies that I’ve tried have been awesome. I just tried their lip crayon in Carolina Coast and now I want them all! The formula is creamy and full coverage and the texture is matte. Shea butter, kendi oil, and jojoba oil are the lip smoothing ingredients and it’s twist up! The feel of this on my lips is really similar to when I wear their lip balms. They have a balmy feeling and a slight tingle on my lips. They’re also only $9 and I see them all the time at the grocery store because they’re sold everywhere. I am wearing this in the picture above and I love it!

Last but not least, butterLONDON’s Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayons just made it into my collection. These are impossibly glossy, and so pretty! There is a good range of neutrals and brights within the formula, and I think everyone could find something they loved here! Mango seed oil and marula oil make it super hydrating. I am getting a lot of mileage out of Disco Biscuit. It’s an opaque, bubblegum pink and I love it! My husband says it reminds him of Barbie!
That’s all five! Honestly, about 80% of my lipsticks I wear the most often are lip crayons. They’re just so easy. They don’t require a lip liner or a lip brush to wear, and I’m all about that easy beauty.
