I have been using cleansing oils for over a year now. I am totally in love with how soft they make my skin. My love runs so deep that sometimes I forget there are other people who have no idea what a cleansing oil is or what precleansing is. Say what?? Let me explain.

Precleansing products are added into your skincare routine before your regular cleanser. They are typically oil based and are designed to dissolve your makeup and SPF before you cleanse to remove the dirt and grime. Once the surface layer is removed, it’s easier for a cleanser to get in there and do the job of cleaning deeper and preventing breakouts.

I have been using the Precleanse set by Dermalogica recently, and I’m loving the results! The Precleanse Oil-Busting Emulsifier melts away layers of excess sebum, sunscreen, waterproof make-up, environmental pollutants and residual products that build-up on skin throughout the day with skin fortifying Olive, Kukui, and Apricot oils. I apply it to my dry skin, and after rubbing it in and adding water, the cleansing begins. This formula is a pro at removing waterproof eye makeup too!

If you’d rather use a wipe, you can use the Precleanse Wipes. They are biodegradable and work much the same way as the liquid formula. You can add water to create the emulsion. You have to keep the package firmly sealed. These are not to be confused with makeup wipes, as you DO need water to make them work.

I love love LOVE the concept of precleansing. When I am not wearing makeup, I often stop at the precleansing step. If I have a full face of makeup on, I follow up with another cleanser like this one from Murad.

Have you tried a precleanser before? I’m curious what others are saying about Dermalogica! I’ve loved everything I’ve tried from them so far!

I have a precleanse cleansing oil from Coui that I love. Just like you, if I’m not wearing makeup, I just use the cleansing oil or if my skin is feeling irritated, I’ll use micellar water followed by cleansing oil

This was the first Precleanse product I ever used. I like it but the fragrance is stronger than I prefer.

I don’t really tend to precleanse..sometimes, I’ll use a makeup removing wipe, but I don’t tend to cleanse again afterwards, unless I don’t feel like it did the job. I just rinse with water. I would do a two-step if I was wearing heavier makeup, though.

I really like using DHC’s Cleansing Oil. Having acne prone skin means I gotta be super diligent about removing all of my makeup before washing my face!

I think all wipes should be labeled pre-cleanse, because it should never replace cleansing. I haven’t tried these but as much as I love Dermalogica, I have to be selective in what I use because my skin is so sensitive.
