If you read my post from earlier today, you will know that I had a major birthday surprise planned for my husband’s 30th birthday this weekend. There was lots of secret keeping involved, tons of planning to get him off of work without his knowing, and I sent the dog out of town for the week. That one might sound kind of like an odd hitch to having a secret birthday surprise, but we spoil our dog to no end and I knew with a lot of celebrating meant not being home much. We had days of fun at the zoo, playing laser tag, playing mini golf, and had a huge party at our house. As much as I love my dog, I didn’t think he would appreciate being left at home for all of our festivities, so I sent him to stay at my mom’s house for the weekend.
Since Ruckus has been gone for a little while now, I miss him a lot and I’m going to pick him up in a few days! We had other stuff going on last month too so he’s hardly been home! My mom has had him for a few weeks total of the last month. I’m hoping he remembers who I am when I go to pick him up. I’m sure he will, but my mom’s been taking him on three mile a day walks and really giving him “the spa treatment” so I will have to really win his heart to even get him in the car with me!
To prepare myself, I ran out to Walmart the other day to buy some Nudges® Grillers and Sizzlers. The bag above is the Steak Grillers I picked up for Ruckus, but I also got some Beef & Cheese Sizzlers. I picked them up on a Walmart run when I was there to get stuff for our out of town company. At my Walmart, dog treats are located near the cleaning supplies, which is super convenient, because I needed those too!
These are new to Walmart and the Steak Grillers even smell like steak, and are moist, and I just know he’s going to love them. More so than buttering up my dog, I just really want him to know that I love him so much. Sheesh, can you tell I haven’t seen him in a few weeks?
Ruckus is such an awesome dog and so special to the family. We have lived in seven places with him since we got him in 2010. When we moved out to Washington and I couldn’t find a job when I was pregnant, he was such an awesome companion for me. My husband was working long hours and I was bored and unemployed and Ruckus and I would walk a few miles together every day. It was a really hard time for me emotionally and he was my therapy. A couple years ago, Ruckus got a rare mast cell tumor in his eye. Luckily, Ruckus is doing much better these days but we are so glad we were able to help him and that he is still around for us. He is such a loyal and amazing dog, I couldn’t imagine life without him.
I made Ruckus a little basket full of his most loved chew toys for when he gets home. This is the kind of nerdy fun that I love. And those are treats I left for HIM on the carpet, not the other way around, HA!
I filled the big blue ball with some treats. This is one of his favorite toys. He can knock it down a staircase, and the treats will dislodge. This toy can keep him busy for quite a while!
They truly do look like mini steaks. They’re “real food-inspired” with real meat as the #1 ingredient. They’re also made in the USA with only USA-sourced protein. That may not sound like a big deal, but if you stay up to date on pet food safety, you’ll notice that a lot of dog food from other countries gets recalled regularly and has contaminated ingredients. These are high quality, so I don’t have to worry about that! I view our dog as a member of the family and would never consider feeding my kids food with strange ingredients from another country.
Once Ruckus is back in town, I’m hoping I can win his heart back! Here he is lounging in his favorite spot in our backyard. I sure miss that guy! If he loves the new treats I bought for him I will go and pick up some of the new Jerky Cuts value size (36 oz) at Walmart next! Keep your eyes out for that one for the pup in your life!
