The other day I posted about some cute Valentine’s Day gift ideas from LUSH. Today I’m going to give you a couple more ideas. I was feeling brave last week and went on an outing with the kids to the mall by myself, and I was window shopping a little bit. I didn’t buy anything, but since I was there to pick up my wedding ring (it was getting re-plated), I thought I’d do some browsing. There are lots of great ideas out there for gifts right now, depending on who you are shopping for and what category of gift you are interested in!
Of course, I had to stop at Sephora while I was in the mall. I’ve been doing a pretty good job of staying away from there lately, considering in my Beauty Resolutions post I was hoping to cut back on beauty purchases this year. I did see three things there that appealed to me though! Something I always see and love, something I would probably not buy myself, and a new brand I’ve never heard of.
What I always see and love: Lancome’s beautiful display of lipsticks gets me every time. Their display at my store is a gorgeous picture of Lupita Nyong’o with all the rose lipsticks from the L’Absolu Rouge line surrounding her. Months ago I mentioned my obsession with Jezebel from this line (reviewed here), but right now Rose Damascena is really speaking to me. At first glance it looks like the Estée Lauder Reckless that I passed on over the holidays, and a little bit like the Bite Beauty Lip Lab #2 lipstick that was only in stock for a few days in February.
Wouldn’t buy for myself: I’ve always wanted a Diamond Foot File. It’s not that I wouldn’t buy one for myself, but they are $50 and when I have money burning a hole in my pocket, I’m usually thinking of a new highlighter or lipstick I want to buy, not my scaly feet. At some point in my life I would really like to start taking better care of my feet and investing in a foot file would be a step in the right direction (har har).
A brand new to me: I haven’t seen Nudestix around, so when I stumbled upon the brand in Sephora I was intrigued. There are some pencils for highlighting and contouring, and also some meant for lips and cheeks dually. At some point I’d like to investigate further, but considering I had my kids on me it was a quick trip. Have you tried the brand? If so, what did you think?
As I was doing my shopping, I ended up at the fragrance counter. I wasn’t going to buy anything, but I got sucked in by some really good smells and decided to spray some cologne. It’s been a hot minute since I bought my husband a new scent, and I decided it was time for a change. He recently got new glasses and he’s training for a Tough Mudder, so I thought a new, rugged scent would fit in with his new image.
Mont Blanc is the scent I got for him. It’s super masculine and has a lot of depth compared to his other fragrances (Givenchy Play and Azzaro Chrome). Some of the notes are italian bergamot, french lavandin, pineapple leaves, white cedar, rose, fresh jasmine, pomarose, evernyl, sandalwood, and tonka beans. You’ve got to smell it for yourself, but it’s super manly and he really likes it. I gave it to him early.
For the Home:
Every time I go to the mall, I end up heading to Teavana. I want #allthethings when I go in there. I REALLY want the Breville One Touch Tea Maker and think it would be a game changer for tea brewing. I’m really into tea and I am convinced if I bought this, I could give up coffee forever. This tea maker is one touch, fully automated, and uses the exact water temperatures and controlled brew times to brew a perfect cup every time.
For the Kids:
I don’t buy my little ones too many toys at this age and they still have a play room overrun with all of their swag from all of the gifts they get from relatives and friends. I like the idea of getting my kids coloring books or a new outfit at their ages (5 months old and 2.5 years old) because I do like to get them something fun to open.
For a Splurge:
Rose gold has been really popular for the last few years. All of my nearly-engaged friends are wanting rose gold rings. I personally LOVE rose gold, and would love to splurge on a rose band sometime, but don’t want to fork over the cash for a real one. In the 90s, yellow gold and two tone rings were all the rage, but those rings look dated to me now. I have a friend who hates her wedding ring now because it was trendy when she got married, but not in style now. My ring is all white gold. Will people who get married in 2010-2015 during the rose gold phase regret getting a rose gold ring?
I could see getting some rose gold stacking rings like these and Kate from The Small Things posted these on Instagram the other day and I’m totally swooning over them.
So…if I was going to shop with myself or others in mind for Valentine’s Day this year, these are some of the items I would pick up. On a side note, the whole reason I went to the mall to begin with was to get my ring back from being re-plated. Gold doesn’t come white naturally, it has to be dipped, so over time it begins to turn yellow. It’s been a few years since I got married so it was starting to turn yellow. My ring is under warranty, and getting it re-dipped in white gold is a free service my jeweler provides and it made my ring look brand new again! This would be an excellent surprise for a loved one too. Who doesn’t want to take jewelry and make it look brand new again?
Do you have a Valentine’s Day wish list? What are you getting for your loved ones? Do you celebrate the day at all?
