I simultaneously LOVE and despise new releases for makeup. It’s always the newest and best thing that we tend to want. I bought a few foundations this summer and one this fall and so logically I should be set for a long time in the foundation department. But new releases come and of course, I want to jump on the bandwagon. I have been wanting NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation ($48) and Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer ($27) but I am trying to focus on saving my money for photography equipment right now. Plus, seriously, do I NEED more foundation? No, probably not.
But that brings me back to how things are new and exciting and I’m over here thinking “gimme, gimme” all the new things even though I have so many things that are only a few months old! Why is it that as soon as the fabulous makeups we are using are released in the next best form, we poo poo on the already wonderful thing we are using in favor in the newer items? I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands and create something that would function like the new NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation.
NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation claims full, natural-looking coverage with 16 hours of weightless wear. I’ve read several reviews indicating that you can get great coverage with just a single drop. To me that sounds like my Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Foundation which I reviewed here. So…I decided to mix a squirt of the LM foundation with a dab of my Nars Sheer Glow Foundation. Why did I choose to mix it with my Nars foundation? Because I figured between the brightening qualities and the texture I get from my Nars, and the one drop results I get from my LM, if I mixed them, it should have a similar result to the new Nars foundation.
Fun fact- I took these pics on my kitchen table which is facing a huge window. The first picture was taking a picture into the sun, and this picture was in the exact same location, but the sun is to my back. Cool, huh? I may get this photography thing down one of these days.
Anyway, on to the results.
I don’t know that it worked a miracle on me, but I actually love the results. I didn’t set with a powder, and there is no Photoshop involved, and I’m not swearing a stitch of makeup besides foundation. But, mama likey.
Who knows, maybe I will buy one of the foundations on my wish list sometime, but for now, I am having some guilt free fun shopping my stash and mixing and matching my own little creations.
What do you think? Do you spring for every new release or make do with what you have?
