As promised, this week is basically “matte eyeshadow palette week” on the blog which makes me unsure which I deserve more- a high five or to be slapped for having enough matte eyeshadow to take up several days of posting. I am leaning toward high five though, because this palette is one that makes me happy for three big reasons. Have you heard of Tarte’s Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette yet?
1) Matte is trending. I can be wearing sweatpants and a tshirt and if I’m wearing this, I still have a chance at looking cool. 2) It’s not an entirely matte neutral palette- I see a row of shades that lean towards purple. Purple is my favorite color! 3) The names are totally girl power shades. I bet you can guess my favorite color in the first vertical row- yep, super mom!
Taking pictures of makeup is sometimes tedious but sheesh, this palette is so chic and pretty looking that I don’t even mind. The inside is gold and beautiful and unlike some of the cardboard or rubbery palettes that are popular, this one can easily be wiped clean. Also, how much do you love that the names are written straight on the palette? I hate when the only thing depicting the name is a plastic sheet tucked into the palette, so it’s awesome that I don’t have a piece of plastic to shuffle around.
This first row is giving me deja vu for the original Naked Basics palette. Free Spirit blends right into my skin tone, but the other three shades are overwhelmingly rich brown shades that I love. I am happy about two deep brown shades, Dreamer seeming cooler and Multi Tasker seeming warmer to me.
When swatched, Best Friend and Bombshell don’t come across as being quite as purple as they do in the pan. Bombshell just looks dark. But put it next to Fashionista from the next row for perspective, and it does seem to take on a smoky purple vibe next to the deeper black tones of Fashionista!
I love all the bottom row shades and I really like Fashionista. I’m super happy about the dark black rich matte pigment in this shade!
I’ve been trying to play more with makeup and get back into the fun parts of it for me- getting ready, playing with different looks, getting creative, etc. I thought it was fun to take out the card that came with and do the “play time” look. To be honest I don’t see a huge difference between Day Time and Play Time on here other than the day look having purples instead of browns. But I gave it a shot anyway!
I have hooded eyelids so in order for makeup to really show up on my eyes, I have to wear my eyeshadow in very specific ways. I tend to wear a lot smokier eyeshadow looks than most of my friends, and that’s probably because when I have my eyes open, most of the eyeshadow is covered up by my eye and you can’t even see it. I am always toying with eyeshadow tips and tricks and would love to hear yours if you have any.
I don’t think I got quite as deep into the inner corner as the example on the card did, but I’m still happy with it! These shadows are buttery smooth and soft, and so easy to wear. The quality of the shadows are definitely representative of the rest of Tarte’s line. This is love at first sight for me! And considering Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I think it would make an excellent gift as well, that is, if you can part with it after buying one!
What do you think? Would you spring for this?
