We can’t seem to catch a break in our house with everyone being sick over the past week, but finally I was able to sneak away for a few minutes to finish this post that I’ve been working on. Although my stuffy nose doesn’t let me enjoy this today, I wanted to share with you a recent favorite perfume I’ve been using by the subscription service, Scentbird

scentbird reviewScentbird was basically created for people like me, who are constantly wanting to try new things, and don’t like committing precious bathroom counter space (or money) to a full size of absolutely everything. Scentbird is a designer perfume subscription service, bringing you a 30-day supply of your pick of perfume for only $14.95 a month. There are over 350 luxury scents to choose from. The first comes in a luxury case and every month thereafter, you’ll get a refill.

scentbird 3I took a short survey outlining my preferences, and settled on Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial. I knew going into this that my suggestions were spot on, because a couple of my favorite scents that I’ve already tried and own were listed as possible contenders. In the spirit of what this service is really meant for, I went with a high end fragrance that I’ve not heard of previously to try something new.

Discover this luminous amber-floral fragrance. The fresh burst of bergamot gives way to a delicate floral heart: an orchestrated overdose of rose, jasmine and iris. The vanilla and tonka bean base instantly creates addiction, like the captivating feel of cashmere on bare skin.

The fragrance admittedly took me by surprise. Considering the description, it was a little more on the powerful and pungent side. The first time I wore it I wasn’t sure what I thought, but it grew on me. I wore it for a week straight and the scent kind of grew on me. It has a lot going on- soft and subtle notes blend with more powerful notes and different layers of the fragrance come out at different times of the day. It has a lot of depth and I think it would be good for going out but could be too much for daytime wear.

scentbird 4I loved trying out Scentbird. This was not a fragrance I would have splurged on in full size otherwise because I have SO many bottles of perfume going right now, but it’s still a great scent and absolutely worth the $14.95 for a small sampling of it. I’m not the kind of person who wears a scent for 30 days straight, so I know this sample will probably last me for at least a few months of wear.

scentbird 2Although the card above says the coupon code can be used during the holidays, it’s still valid now! Use the code SCENT25 if you want to try Scentbird for 25% off during your first month.

scentbird5What a neat concept! I really loved this and would totally do it again. For a perfume lover, it makes much more sense to try scent in this way rather than constantly splurging on a full size and expensive bottle.

Have you tried this service? Would you? What scents do you tend to prefer?

Shalimar is making a come back. I remember being in Sephora a year or so ago, and people were buying it up. I’m receiving this for review, too.

I loved Shalimar a zillion years ago, and I like amber so I think I’d like this new version a lot. I love the idea of Scentbird if the survey would identify the kind of scents that I like. I’m pretty specific in my perfume likes/dislikes so I’ve been afraid to try this, but I actually would love to.

When I hear of Shalimar, I think of the movie Working Girl with Sigourney Weaver and Harrison Ford. She puts on Shalimar because it’s his favorite. I have lots of perfumes, but one is my hubby’s fave, and I love that! This would be fun to find a new fave.
