When you have something going on in the evening, or midday, do you take the time to touch up your makeup? Or do you start from scratch? It’s been a hot minute since I’ve gone out for post-work drinks with friends, but I can tell you I NEVER wash my face and start over. I always just build upon what I’ve already got going on.

On a day to day basis, I usually wear moderate coverage foundation, this one being a favorite over the last several months. I don’t redo that step when I go to freshen up later, but there are several other products that I’ll add to the mix for touchups.

For an easy and low maintenance, “no makeup makeup” type look that will transition into something else later, I will start with my favorite foundation at the beginning of the day, and add a blush that leaves just a pinch of color. Rouge Bunny Rouge Blush Wand in Vermeer is perfect for this. There’s no shimmer, but the formula is soft and emollient and gives a cream to powder finish in a soft rosy pink. It flatters my fair skin tone, and will match any makeup I want to wear with it. And the packaging is gorgeous too, so that’s always a perk.

I like to have a couple choices of lipstick color in my purse. During the day I tend to wear something a little more punchy, yet soft enough of a shade that I’m not constantly checking the mirror to see if it’s smeared across my face. A long time favorite lipstick formula of mine is Lancome’s Color Design lipstick. The shade I am wearing here is Designer Bloom. Other favorites of mine from the range include Love it!, Sugared Maple, and The New Pink. The shade I am wearing above, Designer Bloom has the most perfect texture and formula- it goes on smooth and opaque in two swipes and has a pearl sheen finish to it. It’s comfortable and never sticky, and takes a long time to fade on me. This shade comes off as a soft rosy berry to me. It’s perfection!

When I go to touch up my makeup later on in the day, I like to switch up my lipstick. If I’m going out, I will probably add darker, smokier eye makeup for nighttime, and in that instance, I switch to something lighter like a nude. I could totally swing Designer Bloom with a smokey eye, but in the interest of switching it up, I wanted to share with you a favorite nude lipstick. Like, maybe my new holy grail even! Rouge Bunny Rouge Scrumptiously Devious is everything I’ve ever wanted in a nude lipstick. The formula is so hydrating and comfortable on my lips it’s insane. This nude shade is a best seller and has a satin finish, and it has a slip to it that feels slightly buttery and slightly mineral. It has a certain warm opalescence about it, and the sheen it gives off is just so PRETTY. I catch myself looking in the mirror from all angles in the car and in my house when I’m wearing it. It’s not glittery but it glistens. This was a love at first sight color and texture on me, which is amazing because I’m super picky about my nude lipsticks.

l'occitane hydra vital face mistWhen I’m freshening up, I always mist lightly with a facial spray. One of my faves is the Hydra Vital Face Mist by L’Occitane. It smells super fresh, and leaves my skin dewy and looking like I just finished my makeup a minute ago, rather than 6 hours ago! I don’t see this for sale right now for some reason, but I reviewed another item from the Hydra Vital line here last summer so check it out! Some other facial sprays that I’ve tried and loved:

Yonka Facial SprayCaudalie Beauty Elixir, Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix, Urban Decay All Nighter, Clark’s Botanicals Cellular Lifting Moisture Mist (review here)

nars creamy concealerNars Radiant Creamy Concealer, Tweezerman Rose Gold Eyelash Curler, Mirabella Magic Marker Eyeliner in Brown stone, Breakup to Makeup Compact, Earrings: similar here

The biggest difference in before/after probably comes from fixing up my eyes. Nars Creamy Concealer is a great go to product for me, and will deliver opaque, creamy coverage that is never dry and patchy under my eyes and in the redness around my nose. Next, I give my lashes a quick boost with my lash curler. I’ve had several in the past, but the one I’ve stuck by the longest has been my Tweezerman. Urban Decay just came out with a product named Mascara Resurrection that I am dying to try and that would be a great product to try to freshen up the lashes as well (if it works)! I then take my Mirabella Twig eyeliner that had only been rimming the outer edges of my eyes, and use it to line my water line and lower lash line, and touch up with a liquid liner like Mirabella Magic Marker Eyeliner in Brown stone for some darker definition. Of course, this fine detail work can be done easily with a handheld compact like the adorable Breakup to Makeup Compact that opens to reveal two mirrors. “Cross My Heart Hope to Die, Stick Mascara in My Eye”- so funny.

nars dual intensity eyeshadow paletteLastly, when I want to freshen up in a jiff, a palette similar to NARSissist Dual Intensity Eyeshadow palette is perfect. It has nude shimmery shades, brighter shimmers, and deep and intense tones as well. I started the day off with the two left most shades, Europa and Andromeda, and when I went to touch up for later, I used the dark brown shade, Ursa Major, and the deep navy shade, Giove.

To be honest, I’m not sure how I feel about this exact palette yet. I’m still perfecting working with it. I haven’t found a primer that pairs well with it yet, and the best luck I’ve had is wearing it with no primer, wet on my lids, with a dry layer of the same shadow over top. I’m going to keep playing and let you know what I think as time goes on!

5 minutes to refreshed after 2Wearing RBR Vermeer on the cheeks, Rouge Bunny Rouge Scrumptiously Devious, Europa, Andromeda, Ursa Major, and Giove from the NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow palette, Mirabella Twig Eye DefinerMirabella Magic Marker Eyeliner in Brown stone, and Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

It may have seemed like a lot of steps but I do think I got a slightly different, more intense finished product with the use of just a few items and it truly did take me less than 5 minutes. A touch of concealer here, a lipstick change up there, and a couple of eye shadow and liner tweaks later, and I’m a different woman!

What do you do to switch it up a little? I’d love to hear your feedback below!

I love all of the shades you’ve chosen. They’re my favorites. Now that I don’t work in an office, I don’t usually have to pull a day-to-night look. You did a great job! Absolutely gorgeous look

You’re the second person today who’s praised the NARS Creamy Concealer, I’m really in need of speedy concealer like that so this seems like a sign to purchase.

You look GORGEOUS! and you just made me want to buy that NARS palette in a heartbeat. I own 3 shades from that ‘tho so I’m still thinking. I like wearing the e/s wet for more intensity and staying power.

You are beyond sweet! Do you wear a primer with the shadows? I haven’t perfected it yet.

5 minutes to fabulous? Sign me up! Despite what many people might think, beauty bloggers don’t walk around with 10lbs of makeup on their face at all times.

I’ve heard good things about Rouge Bunny Rouge. I need to add them to my wish list. I love the idea of punching up a daytime look, but I still love pairing it with a bold lip, at least for now!
