The first primer I ever owned was by Lancome, and I’ve been addicted ever since. When I’m in a hurry, I’ll admit it’s the first part of my beauty routine that I’ll scrap, but if I take the time to use primer I never regret it. It makes my pores look smaller, my makeup last longer, and if it’s a good one, it may even have some skincare benefits. Of course, you need to pick out the perfect one for your skin type first!

If you are oily, you are probably in the market for something that will keep your skin mattified all day long and hide big pores on your nose. BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector is your right hand man. It acts as a liquid blotting paper on your skin. You can use this by itself, before, or after foundation depending on when you want to control oil. I would suggest using it before foundation and carrying it around for touchups. The formula is sweat and humidity resistant and free of silicone, oil, alcohol, and fragrance. For $36 you get a bunch in the tube. I only wish my skin was oily because this stuff WORKS.

If you are more on the dry side, you will want something to add some hydration and keep your makeup from looking dry and patchy on your skin and clinging to your fine lines. Whenever my foundation looks cakey and off, I know it’s because I’m too dry. A recent find is Lancome’s La Base Pro Hydra Glow. This is the complete opposite of the BECCA one above- this one is meant to give an instant dewy glow that brightens skin with pearl pigments. The texture feels more like a moisturizer than it does like a primer to me, which makes sense because there are lots of skincare benefits to this one! 14 skincare actives like hyaluronic acid and 24-hour hydration from rose essence is included in the formula. My makeup lasts all day when I use this and my skin does feel plump and hydrated all day long! After applying, it dries to my skin but still seems to do a nice job making my pores look smaller.

If you are looking for something with a lot of slip to it (and that silicone feel) try Lancome’s La Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer. It feels like a miracle on my super dry skin and creates a satiny finish for my foundation to lay on. This one specifically is actually the first primer I ever tried and I still love it to pieces.

What is your favorite makeup primer? Do you wear one? If you are looking for a more exhaustive list of primers, I have a big list of ones I’ve tried here.

I will remember this! I have misplaced my Smashbox Primer so I may need to buy a new one. I have very dry skin & Lancome’s La Base Pro Perfecting Primer may be the one. Does it have a scent? Sometimes Lancome’s products have too strong a scent for me. Hoping this doesn’t

That Becca one sounds awesome for my oily skin. I am a huge fan of the Cover F/X primers. My faves are the Mattifying one that also fights blemishes, and their new one that launches after Christmas that illuminates with a soft glow.

I never tried Becca primer, but if it’s anything like their foundations, then I need it. Like, yesterday!
