Ever since buying our own home in September, we have been doing everything we can to make it ours. The freedom of being able to do your own thing under your own roof just can’t compare to living in a rental. We have painted every square inch of the place, we have pounded nails into the walls to hang heavy pictures, and we have taken up old hobbies that aren’t conducive to apartment living. One hobby that I have started again recently is playing the saxophone. I shouldn’t say hobby because at one point it was actually my career, but it has always been incredibly hard to keep up with while living in a rental. If you’ve ever shared a wall with a baby or a musician you know what I mean, and hey, we have both!

Before I became a stay at home mom, I had a career that I really loved. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education k-12. Unlike some degree paths that you decide on when you’re 18, this was something that was a life long pursuit. I’ve been playing saxophone for almost 20 years and piano for even longer, so this was something that was a long time in the making. My absolute favorite part of college was playing in a collegiate level wind ensemble. I went to the best state college for music in Wisconsin and throughout my time there beat out 60+ saxophone players every semester for one of the top spots in the best ensemble there. Excuse me if I sound a little braggy, but besides my two kids, this is my proudest accomplishment in life. I worked my butt off, and it paid off and the thrill of being around that many talented musicians at once is one I am not able to replicate outside of college.

Until now. Recently, a friend was in town and we played some duets together like old times in college. He is a band director now and he was telling me about some of the new apps that were out for band. There is an app now that you can use in conjunction with portable bluetooth speakers that will look up any band arrangement for you and play the music as though the whole band was playing along, while you play your part. It basically emulates my favorite part of college, and I can do it in my basement. I have had a blast playing along with my old band favorites while the music from the speaker surrounds me in my practice area! I wish I knew this existed much earlier!

jbl portable wireless speakersThe JBL Charge 2 Speaker has been so much fun to use while I’m practicing. It plugs in to charge and can also run without the cord until the battery runs out. I can turn the volume up or down, and the sound quality is amazing. I can set it up on my music stand the rubber grip at the bottom makes sure it doesn’t slide around.

jbl portable speaker 2Beyond being super fun to practice with, I have found its portability awesome for taking with me anywhere in the house. I will take it with me to get ready in the bathroom, use it in the kitchen while I am cooking, and in the playroom to play 80s dance music, which is my toddler’s favorite!

jbl speaker 3As you are trying to come up with creative gift ideas this season, consider the JBL Charge 2 Speaker as a gift option. JBL.com is offering FREE ground shipping and 30 day returns, and lifetime support on their premium audio products and gifts online. This works out perfectly for me, because I am hoping not to set foot in the mall again this season. I did a five hour trek around the mall a couple weekends before Thanksgiving and it was a complete mad house. I am vowing to finish the rest of my list online this year, and when shipping is free it’s an even better reason not to leave my house!

screen shotI love that there are a few customizable options for colors. Black is pretty standard, but OMG they come in purple too! My favorite kind of gift to receive is one that I didn’t ask for specifically, but speaks to how well someone knows me. Purple is my absolute favorite color so if I opened a Christmas package and there was a purple JBL Charge 2 speaker inside I would be so thrilled!

I know a few people who really want speakers like these for Christmas. I want the purple one. And how cool is it that you play the saxophone? I played the violin until my early 20s.

That application sounds so neat- it’s great that you can practice your craft with such freedom of creativity thanks to modern technology and wireless audio. #client
