I can’t believe my dog will be five years old in exactly two months. We have been through so much together. Mike and I got him the same weekend we were engaged, and he’s been with us ever since. He has moved with us across the country twice, lived with us in six apartments, and now our home.
When I say we’ve been through so much together, we really have. Shortly after our oldest was born, we noticed that he had a bulge coming out of his eyelid. After a few doctor’s appointments it was discovered that he had a mast cell tumor in his eyelid. Mast cell tumors in dogs are fairly common but to have one in a dog’s eyelid is extremely rare and we’re very fortunate to have caught it when we did. We decided to go through with an operation and there were some complications that caused us to have to put him through a few more surgeries. It was a long process but we are grateful that everything is looking good for Ruckus these days.
Of course, with pet health we only want the best for him now. We try to take him on regular walks, give him proper nutrition, and do the best we can for him. He’s pretty spoiled but over the winter he tends to hole up and not do much. I often find him laying on my bed for hours at a time or on the couch staring blankly. He gets up to eat or paw the door to go outside, and that’s about as much as he’ll move in a day. Since the cold weather is just beginning, we have about six months left before the warmer temps kick in again. The only type of shopping I like to do outside of our home is grocery shopping, because just about anything else can be ordered online. I love that I can sit in the comfort of my living room, baby in lap, and go on Amazon.com to buy anything I may need, including dog food!
Ruckus has been eating Purina dog food since he was born. He is a purebred Canaan dog and the only way to buy them in the US is from a certified breeder. We found a woman in Southern Illinois to buy him from and she mentioned that she starts all of her puppies off with Purina Lamb and Rice dog food because it’s the best stuff out there. We have been feeding him that exact same food for the last five years. I decided this time around, that we would shake it up a little bit and we sprung for the Purina ONE SmartBlend Chicken and Rice formula! I loved being able to use Amazon Prime and I was eager to try the 28 day challenge.
What is the 28 Day Challenge? Purina ONE is asking dog lovers to switch to Purina ONE dry dog food and step up to the challenge. They believe people will see:
- Day 1+: Taste: When your dog loves the taste of his food, it can make all the difference
- Day 7+: Energy: An optimal blend of ingredients provides the energy your dog needs
- Day 14+: Digestibility: Highly digestible food helps more nutrients go to work inside your dog
- Day 21+: Skin & Coat: Balanced nutrition supports a beautiful coat and healthy skin
- Day 21+: Bright Eyes: Your dog’s eyes are a window to his health
- Day 28+: Dental Healthy: Great nutrition and crunchy kibble support strong teeth and healthy gums
We haven’t quite made it the 28 days yet, but I have noticed that my dog is a little more chipper lately. It may be as a result of the great ingredients in his new food, or it may be because he’s had the same exact meal every day for his entire life and we’re switching it up. In any case, I like seeing him happy so we will stick with this food for the time being. What difference will you see in your dog?
Have you or would you try the 28 Day Challenge?
