Purple has been my favorite color for my entire life, so imagine my surprise and thill when I learned that Radiant Orchid was the Pantone Color of the Year for 2014. Before I got really into beauty stuff I had never heard of Pantone’s Color of the Year. If you follow beauty and fashion, there are trends and colors chosen for every year, and you can expect to see lots of cute stuff in the color of the year, and the colors chosen for each season. Luckily, this year is Radiant Orchid!
“…An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society. An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple, and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”
Seeing all of these gorgeous purple tones takes me back to the summer of 2011. I wanted Radiant Orchid everything for my wedding. I was looking for a very specific purple shade, and couldn’t find it anywhere! I would have been dying to have all of these lovely choices then.
I absolutely agree with Pantone that this shade inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love, and health. Purple looks good on everyone. I truly don’t think I’ve ever seen a person wearing purple and thought they should change or choose a new color. I love it and think it’s very universally flattering. It’s a great shade for lifting your spirits and looking alive and healthy and new.
Now that you know how much I love this shade, let me show you some of the goodies I am loving from this shade. I could have picked a lot more, but if I’m being picky these are my true recent favorites.
My bestie convinced me that I needed the Sephora + Pantone Rush Luster Cheek Sweep. I hadn’t seen it at Sephora before because it must be a brand new release. It contains a rather shocking purple shade and a rose gold and a lighter champagne highlight. You could really build the intensity on the purple shade if you want to go Hunger Games with it, but I think it wears pretty well sheer. I am super excited about this palette because I don’t own anything like it. It’s so pretty! I am going to wear the living crap out of this palette this summer.
Urban Decay’s Asphyxia was an impulse buy! I remembered reading a review of it and couldn’t remember if it was positive or negative. I decided that I needed it while I was at the Sephora sale so I grabbed one up. This shade is described as a hyacinth shimmer with blue shift. It’s a bit of a waxier formula and I was surprised by how different it felt to me than other Urban Decay 24/7 pencils. I think this will be absolutely lovely once I get a tan going, and I picture wearing it on my bottom lash line with something soft and ethereal for an eyeshadow look. I’m very excited to play with it! You do have to really work it on in several layers, which is kind of annoying, but worth it if you like the look.
Buxom’s Pucker Up was totally calling my name and I loved the whole Nudes and Brights set. I pretty much hop on any lipgloss set Buxom ever releases because I love the brand. I didn’t grab up either of the two that came out this winter, so I thought I was due for one for the warm months! I’m obsessed! Be looking for a review on the set.
Maybelline’s Color Elixir in Vision in Violet is a lovely purple shade that I reviewed here. Every time I wear this shade I think about how I need to pick up more of these next time I’m at the drugstore. I love the formula, and they are so glossy and long lasting. When I’m out I can never remember which shades I already have so I never buy more! #beautybloggerproblems
